Hanoi Do Hai Nam, a student at Newton Secondary and High School, became the valedictorian of the 10th grade entrance exam at Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted with 35.75/40 points.
Last night, Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted announced the benchmark scores for seven specialized classes. Hai Nam scored 10 in Conditional Math (also known as General Math), 10 in Specialized Math, and 5.75 in Literature.
With the admission score calculation formula being the sum of Math, Literature and specialized subject scores multiplied by a coefficient of two, maximum 40, Nam achieved 35.75 points, the highest among more than 6,100 candidates taking the exam this year. Compared to the standard score for the specialized Math class, Nam had an excess of 9.25 points.

The candidate with the second highest score this year is Nguyen Thi Hong Ngoc, with 35.5 points, also taking the exam for the specialized Math class. Next, Le Tuan Khang - the valedictorian of the specialized Physics class, scored 34.75 points, the third highest in the school. Compared to the standard score, Khang had 11 points more. The remaining two candidates in the top 5 highest scores are from the specialized IT class, both with 34.5 points.
Considering each specialized block, the scores of the valedictorians are all above 32.15 points.

This year, Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted recruited 315 students, attracting more than 6,100 candidates. The English specialized class had the most applicants - 2,049, with a competition ratio of 1/29.3, meaning that for every 30 candidates, only one was admitted. Next was the competition ratio for the Literature specialized class at 1/28.5. Other specialized classes had competition ratios ranging from 1/10.2 to 1/19.8, with the lowest being the Biology specialized class.
The High School for the Gifted at the University of Education belongs to the Hanoi National University of Education. The school was founded in 1966, originally a "special math class" for students from the evacuation area, and later became the High School for the Gifted in Mathematics and Information Technology. The school's students have won 60 medals in international Olympiads.
