Specifically, information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that heavy rain and landslides occurred seriously in Ha Giang on July 12 - July 13, 2024, causing very heavy damage to this locality.

Earlier, on the morning of July 13, a landslide occurred on a passenger bus traveling on National Highway 34 in Ta Mo village, Yen Dinh commune, Bac Me district, Ha Giang province. The incident left 11 people dead, 1 missing, and 4 injured.

In addition, heavy rains also damaged 46 houses in Ha Giang. Dozens of hectares of rice, crops, industrial trees, and aquaculture areas were damaged and dozens of livestock and poultry died.

Regarding the traffic situation, heavy rain caused landslides on National Highway 34 with a length of about 150m, estimated at 21,000m3 ; 11 provincial roads were landslides with 2,800m3 of soil and rock; 58 district, inter-commune, and inter-village roads were landslides with 2,200m3 and 1 spillway was washed away. Preliminary damage estimate is 6.5 billion VND.

Immediately after the disaster, local authorities mobilized functional forces to urgently search for victims, visit, share and encourage victims and their families; overcome the consequences; place barriers and warning signs in landslide areas and areas at high risk of landslides.

Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Vu Xuan Thanh said that on July 13, 2024, the Department's working group coordinated with localities to inspect, grasp the damage situation, respond to and overcome the consequences of landslides in Bac Me district, Ha Giang province.

On the same day, Acting Secretary of Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Manh Dung inspected the recovery work and visited the victims of the landslide in Ta Mo village, Yen Dinh commune, Bac Me district.

In order to proactively respond to the risk of prolonged heavy rain in the coming days, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the northern mountainous provinces to strictly implement the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 67/CD-TTg, in which Ha Giang province continues to carry out search and rescue work and overcome landslide incidents.

Provinces and cities in the Northwest, Viet Bac, the Northern Delta and coastal areas, the Central, the Central Highlands and the South strictly implement Official Dispatch 4978/CD-BNN-DD of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. At the same time, organize on-duty teams and regularly report to the Ministry through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control.

 

In response to the natural disaster in Ha Giang, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 67/CD-TTg on focusing on overcoming landslides in Ha Giang province and proactively responding to floods and landslides. Last night (July 13), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also issued Official Dispatch No. 4978/CD-BNN-DD on responding to tropical depressions and heavy rains.
