On October 13, the Vietnamese team will play against the Uzbekistan team. This is not an official friendly match of FIFA Days. However, this match is of special importance in terms of expertise for the Vietnamese team. Looking at the history of confrontation, Uzbekistan football has an absolute advantage over Vietnam football.
Not only at the national team level, at the U23, U19 and U17 levels, Vietnamese football has not had any victories, whether in official tournaments or friendly matches.
Vietnamese football loses to Uzbekistan at many levels.
In 2007, the Vietnamese team played a friendly match with the Uzbekistan team at the Agribank Cup in Hanoi and lost 1-2. Six years later, the two teams met in two home and away matches in the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers, with the Vietnamese team losing 0-3 at My Dinh and 1-3 away.
At the U23 level, Vietnamese football had 3 draws with Uzbekistan, but these were all unofficial friendly matches. The first time, U23 Vietnam played a friendly match with U23 Uzbekistan in the 2006 Spring Cup and drew 2-2. Five years later, U23 Vietnam drew 1-1 with U23 Uzbekistan at the VFF Cup. In 2016, U23 Vietnam drew 0-0 with U23 Uzbekistan before the 2016 U23 Asian qualifiers.
At the M150 Cup friendly tournament in Thailand - the friendly tournament that coach Park Hang Seo started leading U23 Vietnam, Cong Phuong and his teammates lost with a score of 1-2. In the final match of the 2018 U23 Asian Cup, U23 Vietnam tied with U23 Uzbekistan after 2 official rounds in the final match. But in extra time, U23 Uzbekistan scored an excellent goal and won 2-1.
At the U19 level, Vietnam lost all 2 matches with a score of 0-4 against Uzbekistan in 2012. Most recently, U17 Vietnam under the leadership of coach Hoang Anh Tuan lost 0-1 to U17 Uzbekistan at the 2023 U17 Asian Cup.
Overall, Uzbekistan is still a team with a level superior to Vietnam. Winning or even getting points is still not an easy task for Coach Troussier and his team.
Initially, the match between Vietnam and Uzbekistan was still considered an official friendly, so the team brought its strongest squad to China. Coach Katenec had a number of players playing in Europe and Uzbekistan continued to choose their traditional short-pass combination.
The match between Vietnam and Uzbekistan will take place at 7:35 p.m. on October 13.
