Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Le Van Tien - Director of Hoc Mon Market Management and Business Company Limited - said that in terms of business, Hoc Mon wholesale market operates 24/7. In a year, the market only closes for about 24 hours, which is on the night of the 30th and the morning of the 1st day of Tet.
“On the 30th of Tet, we will still operate normally until 11am for general cleaning. At 11pm on the 1st of the Lunar New Year, goods will be available for people to shop. The preparation of goods will be ensured by the traders for consumers throughout the Tet holidays,” said Mr. Tien.
Similarly, Binh Dien market will operate almost continuously during Tet. A few traders will operate until the 30th day of the lunar calendar, while the rest will operate normally. This year, the amount of goods coming to the market is guaranteed, and prices are stable to meet people's shopping needs during Tet.
At Thu Duc wholesale market, traders also ensure food supply for the market during Tet. Mr. Nguyen Nhu - Deputy Director of Thu Duc wholesale market - said that for Tet 2024, gardeners have stocked up on abundant goods and a variety of products, but consumers tend to tighten spending, so there is a high possibility that there will be a surplus of goods.
According to information from the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, the total amount of agricultural products supplied to the Ho Chi Minh City market through 3 wholesale markets (Binh Dien, Hoc Mon, Thu Duc) is about 7,600 tons/day, including 800 tons of livestock and poultry meat; 1,200 tons of seafood; 5,600 tons of vegetables and fruits.
