In recent days, the house of Captain Le Anh Sang's family in Tan Lam Huong commune (Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh) has been visited by many relatives, neighbors and government representatives.
Captain Sang (born in 1990) is one of three traffic police officers from Madaguoi Traffic Police Station (Traffic Police Department, Lam Dong Provincial Police) who died while performing rescue missions on Bao Loc Pass.
Since receiving the bad news about her son, Ms. Hoang Thi Xuyen (64 years old) has been sobbing continuously and then fainting. Ms. Xuyen is being cared for by relatives who take turns taking care of her.
In the outer room, an altar with a portrait of martyr Le Anh Sang was hastily set up for relatives, friends, and brothers near and far to come and burn incense in memory.
Ms. Pham Thi Hien, martyr Sang’s aunt, said he was the second child in a family of three children. After completing his military service, Sang passed the university entrance exam to study the People’s Public Security.
Since graduating and starting work, Sang has only been able to come home once or twice a year. "Sang is hard-working, gentle, and understanding. Every time he comes back to visit his hometown, he runs over to hug me and ask about his uncle and aunt's health. Those are moments I will never forget," Mrs. Hien recalled.
According to his aunt, Captain Sang has not had a chance to return to his hometown for over a year because of his busy work schedule. Recently, he has also been preparing to start a family.
Captain Sang has held an engagement ceremony with his lover. They have set the date of their wedding on the 2nd of the 8th lunar month (September 16). This good news has been announced to relatives on both sides.
A few months ago, Captain Sang's fiancee sent a piece of fabric back to her hometown for her future mother-in-law to sew an ao dai to wear at the wedding. Now that the ao dai has been sewn, the Captain is no longer...
On July 30, Mrs. Hien was taking care of the rice in the field when she received a phone call from her son in the Central Highlands. The son was shocked to report that heavy rain had caused a landslide, and that Mr. Sang had an accident and was missing.
Hearing the bad news, Mrs. Hien tried to calm down and went home to discuss with everyone to book flight tickets for her husband and relatives to go to the scene. Mrs. Xuyen (martyr Sang's mother) was in poor health so everyone did not dare to tell her the news. Moreover, relatives still hoped that a miracle would happen.
"But that did not happen. On the afternoon of July 30, the rescue team found the car buried, but Sang was not inside. At around 8 p.m. that same day, they discovered his body," Ms. Hien painfully recounted, mourning her nephew who passed away at a young age with many plans that never came true.
Ms. Le Thi Hanh, the aunt of martyr Sang, also choked up: "Sang booked plane tickets for his family and relatives to Lam Dong to attend the wedding. Invitations were sent to several places. Everything seemed ready, but my nephew passed away, leaving everything behind."
Mr. Tran Quoc Phuong, Military Commander of Tan Lam Huong Commune, said that martyr Le Anh Sang is expected to be brought back to his hometown tomorrow morning, August 3. The locality is preparing to receive him and support his family in funeral arrangements.
Previously, a landslide occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on July 30 at Bao Loc Pass, burying three traffic police officers and a resident.
