Korea is a market favored by Vietnamese workers due to its good working conditions and high income. This is also one of the key and quality markets for labor export activities in Vietnam. Korea plans to allow the recruitment of foreign workers with E-9 visas to work in the hotel and apartment rental business... If the policy of accepting foreign workers in Korea is expanded and officially implemented, Quang Tri workers will have more opportunities to choose export occupations.

In August 2023, Mr. Nguyen Van Than (born in 1991), in Dong Giang ward, Dong Ha city, exported labor to Korea. The contract Mr. Than signed with a shipbuilding company under Hyundai Group was for 4 years and 10 months. Contrary to his initial concerns, Mr. Than is now completely satisfied with the environment and his work in Korea.
Previously, after studying in grade 11, Mr. Than dropped out of school and then got married and had children early. In 2023, with the encouragement of his parents and relatives, Mr. Than researched information about labor export and boldly borrowed capital from the provincial Social Policy Bank (SPB) as a relative of a meritorious person to go to Korea to work. His main job is a mechanic, which is suitable for his health and skills because he is already proficient in this profession at home. With a basic salary of 39 million VND/month, Mr. Than sends home to pay off debts and take care of his children's education.
After the Formosa incident caused the marine environment to be polluted, many fishermen in Tham Khe village, Hai Khe commune, Hai Lang district became unemployed. At that time, Mr. Hoang Kim Thuy (born in 1995) intended to work abroad, but because his family had no money, he could not fulfill his wish.
Not long after, his sister accessed information about labor export loans for relatives of meritorious people, so she advised Mr. Thuy to apply for a loan at the Hai Lang District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office with preferential interest rates.
With a loan of 100 million VND, along with borrowing from relatives, Mr. Thuy has realized his dream. Fishing in Korea is very different from the inshore fishing job that Mr. Thuy used to do. However, thanks to his diligence and willingness to learn, he quickly caught up with the job.
Currently, Mr. Thuy's contract has been extended so he continues to work in Korea. In 2023, Mr. Thuy's younger brother, Hoang Kim Thuyen (born in 1993), will also be exported to Korea to work as a fisherman with a basic salary of 30 million VND/month.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy, Mr. Thuy's younger sister, said: "Up to now, my brother has paid off his debt, built a house and continues to save money to have capital to return home to do business. The youngest brother, who just went to Korea last year, has also stabilized his life. Thanks to working abroad, my brothers and I have built a house, paid off our debt and have better conditions to take care of our parents."
The Korean market is increasingly attractive to workers in Vietnam. From the beginning of 2024 to now, the total number of workers in Quang Tri taking the exam to go to Korea to work is 1,503 people, of which 466 people passed the exam and applied for recruitment. The number of workers going to Korea in the first 8 months of the year is 311 people. The rate of workers registering for the exam doubled in 2023, the number of workers passing the exam increased by about 20%.
In 2024, the Korean side will select Vietnamese workers to work in the following industries: manufacturing (assembly, measurement and connection); construction (reinforcement, carpentry); agriculture (livestock, cultivation) and fisheries (aquaculture, near-shore fishing).
The expected number of recruitment in 2024 is 15,374 people (of which manufacturing industry is 11,246 people; construction industry is 200 people; agriculture industry is 895 people; fisheries industry is 3,033 people).
According to the Overseas Labor Administration, at the end of December 2023, the Korean Overseas Manpower Policy Committee decided to expand the pilot program, allowing the recruitment of foreign workers with E-9 visas to work in the hotel and apartment rental business. The expected occupations include: cleaning staff and kitchen staff.
The pilot recruitment area is expected to be in 4 major tourist destinations in Korea: Seoul, Busan, Kangwon and Jeju. Thus, if Korea officially accepts Vietnamese workers in these industries, the employment opportunities for workers will be expanded.
However, taking advantage of information about Korea's expanded acceptance policy, recently, some individuals and organizations have advertised and recruited workers illegally to work in Korea in the fields of domestic help, cleaning, cooking, restaurant, postal handling... under E9-5 visas.
Meanwhile, the Department of Overseas Labor Management has not yet received and approved labor supply contracts from any service enterprises to send workers to work in Korea in the above industries and occupations.
Therefore, the Department of Overseas Labor Management recommends that workers carefully research information if they wish to work in Korea.
Specifically, workers need to contact the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in the locality where they reside, the Overseas Labor Center, and businesses licensed by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to provide services to send Vietnamese workers to work abroad under contracts to avoid being scammed.
