Sharing online about the 2025 thinking assessment exam, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai - Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology - said: "The exam will maintain stability in structure, content and format".
The most significant changes are related to technology to help candidates do better on the test and facilitate university application submission.
Specifically, the exam structure remains the same with 3 parts with a maximum total score of 100. Of which, the 2 parts of Mathematical Thinking and Scientific Problem Solving have a higher proportion, each part is 60 minutes and has a maximum of 40 points. The remaining part, Reading Comprehension has a 30-minute test, with a maximum of 20 points.
The scoring in the thinking assessment test is different from other ability assessment tests.

Accordingly, the test results of the candidates will show the total score and the total number of correct answers of each component. However, with the same number of correct answers, candidates may have different scores.
This depends on the number of correct answers at which thinking level in each component as well as the number of candidates who answered that question correctly.
The international standard measurement system that the exam applies will be based on many other parameters to convert points for each question.
However, test scores are also measured between test sessions. Therefore, candidates will not have to worry about unfairness when the difficulty level of the test is different in each test session.
With the true-false question format with a table, if a candidate answers one question incorrectly, the entire question will not be scored.
In the thinking test, the speed of completing the test does not affect the test result. Candidates only need to effectively use the maximum time of each section to solve the best and most questions.

As in previous years, the questions will not go into detail about the knowledge of a specific subject but will mainly provide materials for candidates to apply their thinking and accumulated experience to solve a scientific problem.
Therefore, candidates do not need to memorize complex or difficult formulas and theorems of physics, chemistry, and biology, but only need to evaluate the questions and analyze the given material to solve the requirements of the test.
If the question requires the use of any formula other than the basic knowledge in the textbook, the question will provide it right in the text. This ensures that candidates who do not study physics, chemistry or biology in depth can still give the correct answer.
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai also said that knowledge in the old program, if it does not appear in the new program, will also not appear in the thinking assessment test.
The 2025 thinking assessment question bank will be reviewed and adjusted to ensure adherence to the 2018 general education program. Questions containing knowledge not included in the new program will be eliminated.
This year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will provide online tests on the mock test system of the thinking assessment exam for candidates to experience, practice test-taking skills as well as have an official source of review before the real exam.
In addition, the exam result certificate will be supplemented with the form of sending a digitally signed file to the candidate's account, making it more convenient for candidates to use the exam results to apply for admission to universities.
Based on the score distribution and university admission scores of previous years, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai commented that with a thinking assessment score of 70 or higher, candidates will pass most universities.
With a score of 80 or higher, candidates have a high chance of being admitted to the most competitive majors and training programs of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
The school is expected to publish an official handbook on the 2025 thinking assessment exam later this month.
In which, the school will provide detailed instructions on question content, how to analyze questions, and test-taking methods to achieve the best results.
Currently, there are about 40 universities using the thinking assessment test results of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in admission, including many top universities such as: National Economics University, University of Pharmacy, Academy of Finance, University of Commerce...
