Another American country cuts diplomatic relations with Israel

The statement from the government of the American nation said the reason for the severance of relations was Israel's attacks on Palestinian territories.

In May 2024, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a note to the Israeli Ambassador in Bogota severing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

However, the ministry's statement said the Colombian government decided to "maintain the operation of consular posts in Tel Aviv and Bogota."

Previously, two American countries, Bolivia and Belize, severed or suspended diplomatic relations with Israel because of the conflict in Gaza.

According to statistics, after 1 year of the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip (since October 2023), more than 41,700 people on both sides have been killed, including more than 16,000 children, nearly 100,000 people were injured, and over 10,000 others are missing. About 1.9 million people - equivalent to 90% of the Gaza Strip's population - have had to leave their homes many times. Gaza's infrastructure, housing, economy, and agricultural land have been severely damaged.

In addition to war, shells and bombs, people in the Palestinian strip of land are also facing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. Electricity, water, food, medicine... are all in serious shortage, and diseases are breaking out and spreading everywhere.
