Recently, Cau Giay District Police are investigating and verifying a case of fraud and property appropriation by impersonating the police agency, calling people to instruct them to install "fake" Public Service software and then appropriating property.

Accordingly, on June 11, 2024, Ms. T (born in 1983; permanent residence: Cau Giay, Hanoi) received a call from a subject claiming to be an officer of Trung Hoa Ward Police, Cau Giay District, informing her that her identification account was faulty.

The subject instructed Ms. T to install the "fake" Public Service software. After the installation was complete, Ms. T discovered that more than 1.2 billion VND had been lost from her bank account. Realizing that she had been scammed, Ms. T went to the police to report the incident.

Recently, although the authorities have warned many times, there are still many gullible people who have been taken advantage of and have had large sums of money stolen.

The method of the subjects is to impersonate police officers and call people to inform them that their citizen identification cards are faulty or that they need to update their resident data and identification codes, then ask them to come to the police station to work.

The subjects will pressure people with the excuse of needing to complete the documents urgently to request them to download the "fake" Public Service software from the link provided by the subjects. When installing this fake software, the subjects will take control of the phone, transfer money from bank account information and payment applications saved on the phone.

Hanoi City Police advise people to be vigilant against the above tricks. Absolutely do not install software or applications as requested by strangers calling. If you install fake software, there is a risk of having your entire phone taken over. Messages and calls to the victim's phone will be controlled by the application, secretly transferred to a server managed by the subject, and will not be displayed on the victim's phone. More dangerously, the subjects remotely take control of the mobile phone, then access the account and transfer money to the victim.

When encountering cases showing signs of fraud, people need to promptly report to the nearest police agency to prevent and handle them according to the provisions of law.
