Accordingly, the python (Python molurus) was caught by Mr. Dao Vien, Cho Cu hamlet, My Xuyen town, My Xuyen district, when he discovered the python crawling across the front door of his house. The python weighed 8kg and was in good health.

When he caught the python and knew it was a rare wild animal, Mr. Dao Vien contacted the Soc Trang Forestry Department to hand it over.
“The ground python is classified in group IIB (endangered and rare forest animals) and is listed in the Vietnam Red Book of Animals. The ground python is the largest of all python species discovered in Vietnam with an average length of 4 - 6m (the longest is 8m) and a weight of more than 100kg.
The python is characterized by a long, thin, gray-brown head. The top of the head has a lanceolate pattern with a pointed tip extending from the neck towards the tip of the snout.
The upper surface of the back is gray or light yellow with red spots and black edges; the food of the python is frogs, toads, birds, reptiles...
