Strengthening propaganda and raising awareness
Implementing the Action Month for Children in 2023, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Can Tho City focuses on propagating the theme of the Action Month "Joining hands to reduce harm to children" with communication messages and slogans; focusing on strengthening the propaganda of the basic contents of the 2016 Law on Children and related decrees and instructions; plans and decisions to implement programs and projects on child care, education and protection being deployed; disseminating knowledge on implementing policies and laws on child protection, care and education; preventing and combating school violence; propagating and improving capacity and skills for families, educational institutions, communities and children on preventing and combating child accidents and injuries; disseminating and educating knowledge on children's rights and responsibilities for students, teachers, and educational managers; educating life skills for students; Instruct parents and caregivers on knowledge and skills in child care and protection.

Promote child care and support
In order to effectively carry out the work of caring for and supporting children, especially those in special and difficult circumstances, in recent times, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and departments, branches, sectors, organizations and localities of Can Tho city have focused on mobilizing resources, coordinating to organize many activities to support and care for children in the area. In particular, the annual Action Month for Children is an opportunity for all levels, sectors and localities to focus on caring for and supporting children such as: reviewing, making lists, proposing and supporting medical examination and treatment for poor children, ethnic minority children, children in special circumstances, orphans...; giving priority to exempting and reducing fees and tuition fees for attending courses for children from poor households, near-poor households, children in special and difficult circumstances; Connect, mobilize, and mobilize businesses, social organizations, families, and individuals to invest and support building and repairing houses, giving gifts, scholarships, bicycles, life insurance contracts, etc. to children, poor students who overcome difficulties, study well, and children in special circumstances, etc.
Also during the Action Month for Children, leaders of Party committees at all levels, local authorities, sectors, unions, social and volunteer organizations... organized visits, presented gifts, and awarded scholarships to children in special and difficult circumstances; children at risk of falling into special circumstances (children from poor and near-poor households), poor students who have overcome difficulties and studied well; children being cared for and raised at social assistance facilities... In the first 6 months of 2023, all levels, sectors, localities, and units in Can Tho city mobilized funds to donate 13,450 gifts to children in difficult circumstances, children from families with preferential policies, and those with revolutionary contributions... with a total value of more than 3,600,000,000 VND. In addition, the City also attaches importance to children's education. The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Department of Education and Training of the city have signed a regulation on coordination to build models for preventing problems that harm children in schools: implementing prevention models in schools according to the actual situation of each locality; implementing communication activities, specialized education, and activities to warn about situations where children are at risk of falling into special circumstances; providing information on support services for students, parents (alternative caregivers), teachers, social workers and managers; implementing intervention and assistance activities; establishing case management records for intervention by case when the problem requiring assistance has been identified...

Promoting children's participation rights
On the occasion of the Month of Action for Children 2023, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs presides over and coordinates with the City Youth Union, departments, branches and sectors to advise on organizing the Month of Action for Children 2023 with practical and meaningful activities: Launching Ceremony of the Month of Action for Children 2023, City-level Children's Forum, Drawing Contest with the theme "My Dream", Launching the model "Safe House" to prevent accidents and injuries to children...; safe and healthy summer vacation activities. Coordinate to organize skill courses such as: swimming classes for children; classes providing knowledge and skills for safety in the water environment, safety when participating in traffic, rescue skills and first aid for children with accidents and injuries so that children have a safe and healthy summer vacation; encourage children to participate in military semesters, people's police semesters; gifted classes...
At the same time, in order to promote children's right to participate in child-related issues according to the provisions of law and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, since 2020, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has organized a pilot launch of the Children's Rights Club in Long Tuyen Ward, Binh Thuy District. This is the first club model launched in a residential area. Initially, the club has 36 members who are students of Long Tuyen Secondary School participating in maintaining activities every Saturday. Depending on the monthly theme, the subcommittees focus on disseminating and holding activities on the following contents: learning about legal knowledge about children's rights and responsibilities, preventing domestic violence, child sexual abuse, and necessary life skills; exchange, share, support knowledge, learning experience, social knowledge and practice communication skills for children... Thereby, children have the opportunity to express their thoughts on relevant practical issues, learn and raise awareness of children's rights and duties. Through the activities of the Club, it also contributes to promoting the attention of Party committees, local authorities and society on child protection, care and education.
