Vietnamese and Chinese youth and activities to foster friendship

The Vietnam - China Youth Union has jointly contributed to promoting the development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, under the motto "Friendly neighbors, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, towards the future".

Over the years, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Chinese Communist Youth Union have increased exchange and cooperation activities, bringing practical benefits and efficiency to the youth of the two countries; fostering the traditional friendship between the youth and people of the two countries.

The youth unions of the two countries have together contributed to promoting the development of the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, under the motto "Friendly neighbors, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, and looking towards the future".

Notably, the Youth Unions of the two countries have coordinated to organize meaningful youth exchanges and cooperation: Vietnam - China Youth Festival; Vietnam - China Youth Friendship Meeting.

Vietnam - China Youth Friendship Meeting

The Vietnam - China Youth Friendship Meeting is an activity that has been held alternately in each country since 2000, with each country welcoming 100 young people per meeting.

The program's activities help young people understand more about the country, people, culture, experience of the Youth Union and youth movements of each country; strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries' youths, and contribute to educating the youths of the two countries about the traditional friendship between the Party, State, People and youth of Vietnam and China. Thereby, affirming the determination and responsibility of young people in preserving and strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

As of May 2019, the two sides have coordinated to organize 19 meetings.

In 2019, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee sent a delegation of 100 delegates to attend the 19th Vietnam - China Youth Friendship Meeting in China (from June 19 to 26). In addition to the activities of greetings, visits and working at universities, companies, start-up centers, and youth exchange activities, the highlight of the 19th meeting was that the two sides agreed to organize the Vietnam - China Youth Development Forum to enhance the depth of exchange and cooperation activities between the youth of the two countries.

The youth unions of the two countries agreed to coordinate well in organizing exchange activities in 2020 - the year the two countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. However, due to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the exchange programs were switched to online format. The 2022 program is the second activity organized in this format, after the first in 2021 hosted by Vietnam.

Vietnam - China Youth Festival

The Vietnam - China Youth Festival is an activity organized by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee in coordination with the Chinese Communist Youth Union Central Committee, contributing to concretizing the common perception of senior leaders of the two Parties and two States on continuously consolidating the traditional friendship and promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the Chinese Communist Youth Union Central Committee successfully organized the first and second festivals in China in 2010 and 2013, and the third festival in Vietnam in 2016.

The first Vietnam - China Youth Festival was held from August 25 - 29, 2010 in Guangxi Province (China) with the theme "Vietnamese - Chinese youth celebrate, continue friendship, develop together, open up a bright future", in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - China diplomatic relations (1950 - 2010), Vietnam - China Friendship Year 2010.

The festival was held in 8 cities of Guangxi, including: Liuzhou, Guilin, Qinzhou, Chongzuo, Fangcheng Port, Beihai, Baise, and Nanning. The event ended with the Festival Night in Nanning with the participation of 3,000 Vietnamese youth and nearly 20,000 Chinese youth with the following contents: Reading letters from the General Secretaries of the two countries to youth delegates; speeches by senior leaders of the two countries and an art festival.

Many exchange and cooperation activities between Vietnamese and Chinese youth

The second Vietnam - China Youth Festival was held from November 24 - 27, 2013 in Guangxi Province (China) with the theme "Flying high with youthful dreams, building a bright future".

The event was held in 8 cities of Guangxi, including: Liuzhou, Beihai, Fangcheng Port, Qinzhou, Guigang, Yulin, Chongzuo, Nanning. The festival night had the participation of 3,000 Vietnamese youth delegates and nearly 6,000 youth from provinces, cities, and autonomous regions of China with the following contents: Reading letters from the Presidents of the two countries to youth delegates, speeches by senior leaders of the two countries and an art festival.

The third Vietnam-China Youth Festival was held in Vietnam from November 7-10, 2016 with the theme "Vietnamese and Chinese youth join hands to foster friendship". At the festival, a delegation of 1,000 Chinese youths was divided into 6 groups to visit and exchange in 6 provinces of Vietnam according to the following themes: Youth participating in environmental protection and sustainable development (in Lang Son, Quang Ninh); Youth participating in preserving cultural identity and developing tourism (in Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho), Youth volunteering in socio-economic development (in Lao Cai).

The festival ended with an Art Exchange Program, Closing Ceremony of the Vietnam - China Youth Festival in Hanoi with the participation of nearly 4,000 Vietnamese youth and 1,000 Chinese youth delegates. At the program, senior leaders of the two countries attended and spoke to the youth of the two countries.

Along with the Youth Friendship Meeting program, Youth Festival... the youth of the two countries also connect in multilateral youth cooperation activities in many fields, such as: World Youth Development Forum; ASEAN - China Youth Camp; International Conference on Cooperation and Development for Young Entrepreneurs... The sister cities and border provinces focus on organizing many cooperation and exchange activities.
