Defeating Atletico 5-3 after 120 breathless minutes of play in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final on the evening of January 10, Real Madrid entered the final.

The Spanish Super Cup will take place from January 10-14 with four teams, Real Madrid, Atletico, Barcelona and Osasuna, based on their performance in La Liga and the Copa del Rey last season. The teams will play a knockout match at King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Barcelona will face Osasuna on the evening of January 11, while Real Madrid will face Atletico on the evening of January 10. Real Madrid and Atletico pushed the pace of the match high from the start. In the 6th minute, Mario Hermoso opened the scoring for Atletico.
Real Madrid also quickly equalized in the 20th minute thanks to Antonio Rudiger. Nine minutes later, Ferland Mendy put the Spanish Royal Club ahead 2-1.
Despite conceding two goals in a row, Atletico did not lose their composure. In the 37th minute, Antoine Griezmann scored the equalizer for Rojiblancos, making it 2-2 and that was also the score of the first half.
In the second half, Atletico took the lead again. In the 78th minute, defender Rudiger clumsily kicked the ball into his own net. However, Atletico's advantage did not last long when in the 85th minute, Dani Carvajal scored the equalizer for Real Madrid to make it 3-3.
In extra time, Real Madrid played more dominantly and their spirit helped them score two goals. First was Savic's own goal in the 116th minute and then Diaz sealed the 5-3 victory for Real Madrid.
The final result of this match was 5-3 in favor of Real Madrid. Coach Ancelotti's team won the right to enter the Spanish Super Cup final on January 14 and awaits the opponent who is the winner of the match between Barcelona and Osasuna.
