The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (Infrastructure Board) has just updated the progress of the dredging, environmental improvement, and infrastructure construction project of Xuyen Tam canal.

The project is over 8.8km long from Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Vam Thuat river. The construction scale is a bank protection embankment using prestressed reinforced concrete sheet piles; Dredging the canal bed to a bottom elevation of 3.5m deep; the canal width is from 20-30m.

On September 27, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council unanimously approved the adjustment of the policy, increasing the investment capital for the Xuyen Tam Canal renovation project from over VND9,664 billion to nearly VND17,230 billion. Currently, the Infrastructure Board is coordinating with the Department of Construction to complete the project adjustment procedures.

According to the Infrastructure Board, the project is divided into 3 construction packages: XL-01, the section from Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Bui Dinh Tuy bridge, including Cau Son canal; XL-02, the section from Bui Dinh Tuy bridge to Luong Ngoc Quyen street, including Binh Loi canal, Binh Trieu canal; XL-03 (the section from Luong Ngoc Quyen street to Vam Thuat river).

To date, the XL-03 package has had its construction drawing design and package estimate of nearly 600 billion VND approved. It is expected that the contractor selection will be completed to start construction in November 2024.

The remaining 2 packages are being reviewed and explained by the Infrastructure Board and the consulting unit, completing the documents to submit to the Department of Construction for appraisal, striving to complete in November 2024 under the direction of the Chairman of the City People's Committee.

Both packages are expected to complete contractor selection and start construction in April 2025.
