In the first 10 months of 2023, rattan, bamboo, sedge, and carpet exports reached nearly 600 million USD. In the first 11 months of 2023, rattan, bamboo, sedge, and carpet exports reached 661.8 million USD.

According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's export of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products in January 2024 reached more than 79.7 million USD, up 11.8% over the previous month and up 74.3% over the same period in 2023. After a decline at the end of 2022, export turnover has recovered and grown significantly.

In terms of market, the US is still Vietnam's largest export market. In January, exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpets to the US earned 31.3 million USD, up 107.2% compared to January 2023, accounting for 39.2%.

The UK is the second largest export market. In January, the country imported nearly 5.3 million USD, up 55.6% over the same period last year, accounting for 6.6%.

Japan dropped to third place, importing 5.2 million USD in January 2024, up 44% over the same period in 2022, accounting for 6.5%.

In addition to the top 3 largest markets, many other markets are also recording impressive growth rates such as Sweden (288%), Canada (230%), Italy (119%). Notably, China - one of the world's largest exporters of rattan, bamboo, sedge, and carpets - increased imports from Vietnam by 214% in January 2024.

Vietnamese bamboo, rattan and sedge products are likely to account for 10%-15% of the global market share. According to experts, the global bamboo market size is expected to reach 82.90 billion USD by 2028. It is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 5.7% from 2021 to 2028 with prominent trends.

Vietnam has a very large bamboo area, up to 1.5 million hectares, distributed in most provinces across the country, of which 37/63 provinces have an area of ​​over 10,000 hectares. Vietnam's bamboo resources are rich and diverse, with hundreds of species, including some highly economic species such as: luong, long, truc sao, lo o, buong, tam vong, tre gai...

There are over 1,000 bamboo and rattan craft villages nationwide, accounting for 24% of the total number of craft villages in the country. The Northern and Central regions focus on bamboo, rattan, and sedge products, while the Southwestern region focuses on water hyacinth and palm leaves.
