ThaiBinh Seed is a company specializing in the production and trading of plant varieties; production, processing and trading of food in Vietnam. ThaiBinh Seed has a history of over 50 years of operation, with a wide-ranging agricultural production linkage system in provinces and cities across the country.
In 2021, ThaiBinh Seed won the First Prize worth 750,000 USD of the Project "Sustainable Rice Production and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction" (AVERP Project) organized by the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) in coordination with the People's Committee of Thai Binh province and the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development).
As a pioneer in sustainable rice production, ThaiBinh Seed has implemented the AVERP project in Thai Binh province from 2016 to 2021, divided into 2 main phases: phase I includes two trial crops (summer crop 2017, spring crop 2018), phase II includes 4 consecutive crops (starting in spring crop 2019 and ending in summer crop 2020).
At the end of the 4 expansion seasons in phase II, 47,762 farmers from 85 cooperatives participated in applying 4 sustainable rice production technology packages of 4 participating units with a total area of 4,937 hectares, which were verified by the project and allowed to be deployed on a large scale.
The AVERP project, implemented by ThaiBinh Seed, has encouraged smallholder farmers in Thai Binh to adopt smart rice farming. It demonstrates to farmers the benefits of changing farming methods and using inputs more efficiently while increasing productivity and profits.
The project also brings long-term impacts to help Vietnam reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to the dual benefits of economic development, environmental protection and increased linkages in the rice value chain, the verified results of the project also contribute to policy mechanism proposals, integrating the role of enterprises in implementing and expanding the transfer of sustainable rice production technology for the Red River Delta in particular and Vietnam in general.
