Thailand - Quang Tri: From meeting to promotion, connection, action

The “1st Meet Thailand” conference, co-organized by Quang Tri province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Thai Embassy, will be held for the first time in Vietnam in August 2023. This is an opportunity for leading Thai businesses and investors to promote investment in Vietnam and Quang Tri province. After this important event, Quang Tri province has carried out many practical activities to promote and connect with Thai businesses to promote cooperation in various fields, especially the fields discussed at the conference such as renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, supply chain integration and promoting cooperation on the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).

In mid-September 2023, the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center organized a delegation of 17 enterprises and cooperatives to participate in trade transactions in the northeastern provinces of Thailand, Khon Kean and Ubon Ratchathani.

This is an activity organized with the participation of 31 units to create conditions and opportunities to promote the national image, brands and products of enterprises. Support and increase the export of goods, especially agricultural products, aquatic products, industrial products, small-scale industry, handicrafts, OCOP products of enterprises in the North Central region to the market of the provinces in the Northeast region of Thailand.

Participating in this event, the province's trade delegation organized an exhibition and introduced typical products such as: medicinal herbs, natural essential oils, Khe Sanh coffee, organic rice, nutritious cereal powder, peanut oil...

In addition, this event also displays and promotes tourism publications and a list of projects calling for investment in the province to carry out tourism and investment promotion activities.

Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Tran Phi Tuong said: “This trip has helped businesses promote their image and product brands, while also researching the market, creating joint ventures and partnerships in production and import and export of goods”. As a result, 14 memorandums of understanding were signed between businesses from both sides.

After the Thailand Meeting, the two sides aim to increase meetings, exchanges, and connections to explore investment cooperation opportunities between the provinces of Thailand and Quang Tri. On October 9, 2023, the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion coordinated with the Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association to welcome a delegation of 30 members of the Thai Young Entrepreneurs Association to Quang Tri province to participate in the program "Meeting and connecting investment and trade".

Mr. Kraisorn Chatlekavanich, President of the Thai Young Entrepreneurs Association, said: “The Thai Young Entrepreneurs Association, the Mukdahan Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association and the Quang Tri Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association exchanged information on preferential policies, investment attraction, markets, typical products, destinations, tourism services, needs and desires for connection to sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation.

We hope that Quang Tri enterprises and Mukdahan, Thailand enterprises will make efforts to coordinate in organizing investment and tourism promotion programs, forums connecting investment, trade, and tourism to have more opportunities for cooperation and business."

An important event taking place from November 17-19, 2023 in Udon Thani province, in the Northeast region of Thailand, is the Vietnam - Laos - Thailand - Cambodia - Myanmar Business Forum 2023. The forum aims to enhance trade, connection and network formation between businesses in the fields of agriculture, tourism, services, high technology, export, and finance.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien mentioned the advantages of Quang Tri province being located on EWEC and the PARA-EWEC Corridor to build the province into a regional and world freight transit center - a connecting point between the Central and Central Coast regions with countries in the region in the East-West direction.

“Quang Tri province has been implementing important projects to further shorten the transportation distance, creating favorable conditions for customs clearance, transportation, and logistics through La Lay and Lao Bao international border gates. At the same time, the province is actively implementing the Quang Tri Airport project, submitting to the Prime Minister for consideration the conveyor belt project for transporting bulk cargo through La Lay international border gate... These are favorable conditions for cooperation in implementing the supply chain to minimize transportation costs for partners and businesses in the region,” said Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien.

To improve the effectiveness of cooperation in the coming time, the province needs to continue to research, perfect, and promulgate mechanisms, policies, and measures to encourage investment incentives, mobilize, manage, and effectively implement FDI programs and projects from Thai investors in the province and attract and mobilize new investment projects.

Strengthen cooperation with provinces in the key economic region of Central Vietnam, through clearly identifying the advantages of each province, common interests and the inevitable trend of regional linkage in economic development and international integration to build a coordination and cooperation mechanism to exploit the potential of common advantages from EWEC. Promote the implementation process of facilitating the means of transport of goods and passengers between the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.

In addition, the province needs to promote the role of associations and professional organizations to create a network of connections, build a reliable and effective trade bridge. Through the network of business associations between countries, enterprises can proactively expand markets, seek partners, develop cooperative relationships, conduct joint ventures and associations in the fields of investment, trade and tourism.

Strengthening the organization of exchanges, creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Thailand to participate in contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality and investment promotion activities, trade investment cooperation, promoting products and services of Quang Tri province, as well as promoting the role of a bridge to strengthen relations between provinces and localities of the two countries.
