In the women's start event of the 2024 Olympics , Nguyen Thi That is not considered to have the ability to compete for a medal. Because her opponents are all top racers in the world such as Lotte Kopecky (Belgium), Vollering Demi, Wiebes Lorena, Vos Marianne (Netherlands), Elisa Longo Borghini (Italy) or the reigning champion Anna Kiesenhofer (Austria). At the finish line, a surprise happened when the first-time Olympic racer Faulkner Kristen (USA) won the gold medal with a time of 3 hours 59 minutes 23 seconds.
Nguyen Thi That was born in 1993 and started cycling at the age of 14 after her talent was discovered by coach Ngo Quoc Tien and selected to join the An Giang youth team. Nguyen Thi That's best achievement is the silver medal at the 2014 Asian Games and three Asian championships (2018, 2022 and 2023). From the perspective of a Southeast Asian racer, That's career has long been fulfilled when she won gold medals in five consecutive SEA Games. She is also the first Vietnamese female racer to compete abroad (after the 2018 Asian Games) and has achieved many successes.
