Vietnamese player wins 9-ball pool against European champion

Today, October 5, the Peri 9-Ball Open 2023 kicks off at Peri Pool Arena. With a total prize pool of $104,000, the Peri 9-Ball Open is one of two World 9-Ball Tour ranking point tournaments in Hanoi.

The importance of the Peri 9-Ball Open has made the tournament a gathering place for world-famous players such as Shane van Boening, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Fedor Gorst, reigning European Open champion David Alcaide, two world champions James Aranas and Johan Chua, Billy Thorpe, Mario He...

Besides the international 9-ball billiard names, Peri 9-Ball Open also became the first tournament with the participation of many players who have established a position in the Vietnamese 9-ball billiard community such as Nguyen Anh Tuan, Luong Duc Thien, Do The Kien, Dang Thanh Kien, Nguyen Phuc Long, Bui Truong An.

On the first day of the winner-loser bracket, the confrontation between Dang Thanh Kien and David Alcaide was as exciting and dramatic as expected. The two players brought the match to the most intense level of billiards - the hill hill game. Alcaide had the right to break and put the number 1 target ball into the pocket.

However, a mistake in the situation of ball number 2 causing the cue ball to go down the hole made the reigning European champion give the victory to Dang Thanh Kien.

Meanwhile, Do The Kien suffered a regrettable defeat against the World Cup of Pool champion, James Aranas. Playing on par with the Filipino player, even reaching the hill first, Do The Kien still suffered an 8-9 defeat and had to find a chance in the loser's bracket.

The first day of Peri Open was also full of memories for 17-year-old Luong Dinh Phuc, who worked many jobs to earn enough money and rode a motorbike over 300km from Mong Cai (Quang Ninh) to Hanoi to attend the qualifying round.

In the final qualifying match to be able to participate in the tournament, Phuc received a 7-9 defeat. In order to encourage this young talent, the Peri Open Organizing Committee gave Phuc a Wildcard match at the Peri Open.

In the winner's bracket, Dinh Phuc lost to Kyle Amoroto with a score of 4-9. In the loser's bracket, this young player defeated Nguyen Duc Dung (8-6) to keep his hope of entering the play-off alive.

Tomorrow, October 6, Peri 9-Ball Open continues its exciting series of matches when world 9-ball billiard stars Shane van Boening, Skyler Woodward, Max Lechner, Fedor Gorst, Anthony Raga compete.
