Today (January 2), ship 911 of Squadron 918 of Submarine Brigade 189 of the Navy successfully rescued the Petrolimex 11 shipping vessel and towed it to shore.

The Petrolimex 11 cargo ship is 175.9m long, 31m wide, and has a capacity of over 40,000 tons on its way to transport goods from Malaysia to Hon Gai port, Ha Long city (Quang Ninh).

On the afternoon of January 1, when this ship passed through Khanh Hoa waters, its engine system burned and it could not operate. The ship lost control and drifted about 20 nautical miles southeast of Cam Ranh coast. The 25 sailors on board panicked. The captain sent a signal for assistance.

Upon receiving the news, Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Van Thuong, Deputy Chief of Staff of Submarine Brigade 189, directly commanded Ship 991 of Squadron 918 to go to the rescue. After many hours of overcoming level 6-7 waves at sea, the rescue force reached the scene and rescued the ship in distress.

The sailors received medical care. Afterwards, the authorities connected the rope and towed the Petrolimex 11 to the anchorage area in the waters of Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district (Binh Thuan).

The fishing boat in Khanh Hoa waters, about 100 nautical miles from Nha Trang, had an engine failure, drifted in rough seas, big waves, strong winds and sank. The rescue boat later sank due to rough seas.
