At 9:00 a.m. on September 28, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company (Vietnam Railway Corporation) said that the unit had just finished fixing the incident of a freight train derailing while passing through Lang Co town (Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province).
Previously, at around 3:10 a.m. the same day, locomotive D19E-943 pulled 24 HH16T container cars running on the North-South railway.
When the train reached the Lang Co - Thua Luu section, nearly 4km from Lang Co station, the train's engine suddenly derailed. The incident occurred on the main line, causing the railway to be temporarily interrupted.
Notably, in the past two months, the railway industry has recorded many cases of trains derailing while traveling through Phu Loc district. Although these incidents did not cause any human casualties, they affected the operation and traffic of the North-South railway line.
After the above incidents, Vietnam Railways Corporation organized inspections, analysis and evaluation of the causes of the train derailments. Specifically, the inspection showed that the quality of the road and bridge was guaranteed to meet technical standards.
The cause of the train derailing is due to the air spring carriage, when passing through the large-diameter track (Tg 0.15), it will resonate with many unfavorable factors (of the bogie type with a large wheel axle distance of 2,200mm). The train passes at low speed, the time the guiding force increases for a long time, causing the guiding wheel to cling to the rail and cause derailment.
