That is one of the orientations to support women in starting a business that will be promoted by the Women's Union of Duc Tho district (Ha Tinh province) in the coming time - according to Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Nhung, President of the District Women's Union.

PV: Could you tell us how the Duc Tho District Women's Union has implemented the Project "Supporting Women to Start a Business in the 2017-2025 Period" (Project 939) in rural areas recently?

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Nhung : We have issued many plans and documents on supporting the construction of models, startup ideas, building products of the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program; registering models under Project 939, supporting poor women to build livelihood models...

In particular, every year, the Association has issued decisions assigning specific targets to each unit, including targets for implementing Project 939 such as establishing cooperatives, cooperative groups, model gardens, renovating and arranging mixed gardens, vocational training, etc.

After 5 years of implementing Project 939, we have achieved many results such as: Organizing 775 propaganda and training sessions on Project 939 for 62,000 members; coordinating the organization of 35 vocational training classes for 1,225 students. After vocational training, members have applied it to production and livestock farming in their families.

In early 2024, the women learned sewing. After studying, they were recruited into local factories and had stable jobs.

Participating in the "Women's Entrepreneurship" contest organized by the superior Association, the Women's Union of Duc Tho district had 43 ideas to compete, 5 of which won prizes at the final round of the provincial-level entrepreneurial idea contest.

The District Women's Union has mobilized and guided women to establish 6 new cooperatives, 66 cooperative groups, and 148 models. There have been 15 products mobilized by the Union and managed by women members that meet OCOP standards...

PV: What are the difficulties in implementing support for women starting businesses locally, madam?

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Nhung: In addition to the achieved results, in general, current start-up activities are still not commensurate with the potential and advantages of the locality and the women's force in the district. The production model led by women is still small in scale, lacking connections, and not very sustainable.

The proportion of women who own cooperatives and cooperative groups is still low compared to men. Not many businesses have been established, and cooperatives play a leading role in production and consumption of products for households.

PV: To overcome those limitations, what will the District Women's Union do in the coming time, madam?

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Nhung: In the coming time, we will focus on implementing the household economy model associated with the district's key crops and breeds in the direction of joint ventures, associations, and establishing cooperatives and cooperatives in specific areas such as: high-quality commercial rice production (rice-growing communes), organic rice production, high-tech vegetable production, livestock production, and developing hill garden economic models.

We will continue to guide and mobilize women members to develop OCOP products and process products based on local advantages; at the same time, strengthen connections, discover, nurture, and mobilize resources to support the realization of women's startup ideas.

In addition, we will organize for women to visit and learn about economic models and OCOP products owned by women in the province to deploy appropriately in their localities.

PV: Thank you!
