Strengthening inspection and management of high voltage power grids during the dry season

The Quang Tri High Voltage Grid Operation Management Team is currently managing the 110kV line with a total length of 152,083 km of double-circuit lines, 31,041 km of single-circuit lines and 8 110kV transformer stations (TSAs) with a total capacity of 360MVA. In addition, the unit is also assigned to contract the management and operation of 2 bays 22, 3 bays 35kV, 2 bays 110kV, 3 110kV lines with a total length of 24,704 km for customers who are solar power plants and hydropower plants in the province.

Due to the nature of the work, the route length passes through many regions, areas, and complex terrain, causing many difficulties for management and operation, therefore, the periodic inspection of 110kV substations has been organized strictly and regularly.

Twice a week, the grid patrol teams inspect equipment at all substations, focusing on monitoring operating parameters on the equipment, promptly detecting abnormal phenomena for handling, combining industrial cleaning, cleaning and maintenance of equipment (without power outages); updating unresolved problems to register a plan to fix and handle them to ensure stable operation.

The grid patrol teams always perform well in measuring and checking the contact temperature at the equipment in the 110kV substation, the 22kV outdoor cable heads, and the vulnerable locations near the 110kV substations periodically 1-2 times/week. Control well the phenomenon of heat generation on the grid to proactively handle it.

Thoroughly handle problems after periodic testing and problems arising during operation; monitor and handle problems during periodic testing.

Thanks to that, abnormal phenomena and equipment failures during operation are detected and handled promptly, and the reporting regime is implemented honestly and fully with superiors. Therefore, in 2023, there was only 1 incident on the 110kV line 171 Dong Ha 110-173 Dong Ha 220 at position C010, where the C phase (middle phase) was found to have broken and fallen down to touch the phase A insulation string (bottom phase).

These days, Quang Tri province is entering a hot season, so the demand for electricity is increasing. Quang Tri electricians are entering a stressful season.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hiep, Quang Tri High Voltage Grid Operation Management Team said: “During the hot season, during line inspections, we also have to clear service roads, line corridors, monitor and prevent people from burning vegetation around the lines to limit the situation of tree fires affecting the lines and check safety signs at the pole locations.

With nearly half of the 110kV line passing through the midlands and rugged mountains, every time we work, we often bring banh chung, instant noodles... for lunch. Although the work is hard, hot in the summer, cold in the rainy season and bitten by leeches, we always encourage each other to do our best to complete all tasks well, ensuring safe and continuous power supply for the people.

Managing the operation of the 110kV line, which is considered the backbone of the distribution grid of Quang Tri province, the 110kV line workers are working hard to inspect and maintain the grid to ensure power supply during the dry season, focusing on repairing and maintaining equipment in the transformer station and on the grid under the hot sun from 36 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius.

In addition, line workers must periodically check the lines during the day and at night. In addition to visual inspection, workers also use specialized equipment such as flycams and thermal cameras to measure and check the temperature of joints and contact points on the line.

Thereby, in order to detect and promptly handle points at risk of incidents. The cutting of tall trees at risk of falling onto the power line is difficult because it passes through the residential areas of ethnic minorities who have limited legal awareness, different living habits and cultures... Therefore, the mass mobilization and propaganda work for households along the line corridor is always of interest to the Quang Tri High Voltage Power Grid Operation Management Team.

Nguyen Hai Nam, Head of the Quang Tri High Voltage Grid Operation Management Team, said that the management and operation plan and solutions during the dry season and the whole year of 2024 are to regularly inspect and monitor the operating status of 110kV lines in the management area, 110kV substations with high loads, and increase the frequency of inspection of 110kV lines with high loads.

Regularly monitor transformers T1 and T2 at Dong Ha 110kV Station during peak power system modes; arrange personnel if necessary, be ready to re-establish shifts at unmanned 110kV substations; thoroughly apply incident prevention solutions as directed by the company.

Technical management work has been digitized on the Pmis program in accordance with regulations, technical parameters have been updated, equipment operation on the grid has been completed, and operating mode has been monitored on the software system.

Periodic inspection of equipment and lines has been effectively implemented in the field inspection program. Fully update equipment on Pmis, field information. Implement digital signature of 100% of internal reports on Pmis.

Carry out 100% of field inspection forms on the field inspection program, sign periodic inspection forms on Pmis to ensure safe and smooth management and operation of the power system, meeting people's electricity needs.
