Strengthening cooperation and exchange between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos

Attending the meeting were members of the Working Group of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; leaders of the Committees of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and representatives of the National Assembly delegation of Da Nang city.

Speaking at the meeting, Comrade Sommad Pholsena, Vice President of the Lao National Assembly, said: The Lao Party, State, National Assembly and people have been achieving many important achievements in all fields, security and political stability have been maintained; the economy has a good growth trend with GDP in the first 6 months of the year reaching 4.7%.

In particular, the Lao Government and National Assembly have approved and implemented many policies to implement the goals in the national agenda on solving economic and financial difficulties, such as solutions to control inflation, exchange rates, commodity prices and foreign debt, etc., contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 11th Lao Party Congress and the 9th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025); building a peaceful, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Laos.

The visit and working session from September 3-8 of the Lao National Assembly delegation to central Vietnam is one of the important activities within the framework of the cooperation program between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai presented a souvenir to Comrade Sommad Pholsena, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Currently, Laos is focusing on economic development, seeking investors, always prioritizing and creating the best conditions for investors from Vietnam. The purpose of the trip is to share experiences and learn from each other in implementing the activities of the National Assembly, especially in supervision and development promotion. The Lao National Assembly is also preparing the content to amend the Constitution, so it is in great need of the experience and understanding of the National Assembly and of Vietnamese National Assembly deputies to perform its duties well.

Delegates attending the talks exchanged and discussed the socio-economic development situation, activities of the National Assembly and National Assembly deputies of the two countries, the cooperative relationship between the two National Assemblies, experience in legislative work, supervision, maintaining high-level delegation exchanges, exchanges between the Committee level, between the Friendship Parliamentarian Groups of the two countries, perfecting the high-level cooperation mechanism at the Party, Government and National Assembly channels, and the cooperation mechanism between young National Assembly deputies and female National Assembly deputies of the two countries;

Annual cooperation mechanism between the Committees, the two Offices, the National Assembly/Secretariat of the two National Assemblies; maintain close cooperation at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums such as AIPA, IPU, APPEF, ASEEP, APF... Develop a book on 50 years of friendship and cooperation between the two National Assemblies. Enhance the exchange of experience in policy and law making in macro-management and socio-economic recovery and development...

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai shared the challenges that Laos is facing, especially economic and financial difficulties. Believing in the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the administration of the Government, the support and supervision of the National Assembly, and the efforts of the people and businesses, Laos will successfully implement solutions to overcome difficulties; maintain macroeconomic stability, restore the socio-economy; gain even greater new achievements, successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress and the 9th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025).

The great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples over the past years have continued to develop well, becoming increasingly deeper, practical and effective in all fields. Vietnam has and will continue to actively support and assist Laos in successfully assuming important international roles in 2024 such as ASEAN/AIPA Chair 2024, Chair of the 45th AIPA General Assembly;

The special friendship between Vietnam and Laos is always focused on strengthening and nurturing.

Defense and security cooperation continues to be strengthened; it is one of the important pillars in the special Vietnam-Laos relationship; Economic, trade and investment cooperation continues to achieve many positive results, contributing to promoting socio-economic development in each country.

Educational, training and cultural cooperation between the two countries continues to receive attention, be promoted and achieve substantial results; thereby enhancing ideological education and propaganda on the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in the new situation; Cooperation between localities, especially localities sharing common borders, continues to be strengthened, becoming more and more specific, in-depth and comprehensive in all fields, ensuring security, order and safety in the border areas of the two countries.

Comrade Nguyen Duc Hai affirmed: I firmly believe that the efforts and close cooperation between the two National Assemblies will contribute to consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos, forever green and everlasting.
