On the morning of May 24, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cu Chi district organized a campaign to release and raise guppies to destroy mosquito larvae and donated 300,000 guppies to join hands in preventing and fighting dengue fever.
The program both promotes and gives guppies to households in Cu Chi district, each household 5-10 guppies to release into water containers, moving water areas around the house such as stagnant ponds, water jars, plastic trays... to destroy mosquito larvae, minimizing the occurrence of Aedes mosquitoes.
According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cu Chi district, dengue fever often appears during the peak months of the rainy season. To date, there is no specific treatment for dengue fever, the main preventive measure is still to cut off the transmission route through killing Aedes mosquitoes and larvae. In which, killing larvae is considered the simplest, most effective and fundamental measure.
Spraying chemicals to kill dengue mosquitoes is only an emergency response measure to quickly reduce the number of adult mosquitoes, but when the time the chemicals exist in the air is over, new generations of mosquitoes will continue to develop and continue to transmit the disease. Therefore, spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes will only be effective when the mosquito larvae are thoroughly and synchronously eliminated.
Dengue mosquito larvae can only develop in clean water such as tap water or rainwater. Objects that contain water for daily use such as jars, barrels, etc. but are not covered will become breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes.
Therefore, to prevent dengue fever, in addition to cleaning, clearing bushes, and clearing sewers, raising guppies with high environmental adaptability, easy reproduction, and fast growth contributes to killing mosquito larvae and Aedes mosquitoes.
