The recent historic flood has left serious consequences for localities in the province. Immediately after the rains subsided and the water receded, farmers in Tam Nong district quickly went to the fields to harvest the Summer-Autumn rice crop in preparation for the Winter-Autumn crop.

Arriving at Bac Son commune, the commune leaders took us to visit the fields and witnessed the bustling, urgent atmosphere of farmers harvesting the ripe rice fields and forcing the green rice fields to fall.

In the fields, the water has receded to the calves, Mr. and Mrs. Pham Van Nghi in Zone 15 are quickly harvesting and carrying rice to the shore. Mr. Nghi shared: "The water came so fast that we couldn't react in time. My family has 3 sao of rice and 5 sao of vegetables. Now all the vegetables are spoiled, some rice is ripe and some is green, but we are determined to harvest it all to prepare the land for the next crop."

Moving to another rice field, Mrs. Ta Thi Luan and her neighbors are carefully tying up each clump of rice. Mrs. Luan sadly said: "My family grows 5 sao of Khang Dan rice. This rice variety usually ripens later than other rice varieties. The rice grains are still too green to harvest now, so we have to tie them up and wait until the day comes. Hopefully we can save as little as possible."

The rice field of Ms. Pham Thi Huong in Zone 12 has also been harvested. Currently, her family is using tractors and harrows to prepare the soil and make beds to plant winter corn.

Comrade Phan Kim Trong - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee shared: After the flood, the consequences for the commune were nearly a hundred hectares of rice, corn and crops were flooded, thousands of fruit trees were broken, and nearly 30 hectares of bananas were lost, equivalent to about 40,000 trees. To minimize the damage, as soon as the water receded and the rain stopped, the commune mobilized all forces, mass organizations and households in the lightly damaged areas to help people in the flooded areas clean up their houses and gardens, and at the same time go to the fields to support the handling of broken rice and corn areas, harvest crops, and try to complete as quickly as possible, avoiding water-soaked rice sprouting, rotting vegetables...

In Te Le commune, where the Bua river flows through. During the rainy and flood days, the river water rose to level 3, the entire corn and rice growing area of ​​the commune was lost. Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: The commune was completely flooded with 127 hectares of corn and 40 hectares of rice. Waiting for the water to recede, the people will start treating the land immediately to be on time for the re-planting schedule.

The recent floods have caused damage to Tam Nong 1 pumping station, collapsed many large-scale livestock areas and greenhouses; flooded nearly 680 hectares of corn, rice and crops; broken and felled nearly 200 hectares of lacquer, banana, acacia and eucalyptus; nearly 6,400 fruit trees were flooded and felled; many landslides appeared on river banks, drainage canals, floods, and had to evacuate hundreds of households to safety... Those damages have significantly affected the lives and production of many households in the flooded area.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Thu Trang - Deputy Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development informed: Up to now, to minimize the damage caused by flooding, the People's Committee of Tam Nong district has requested the People's Committees of communes and towns to focus on directing the overcoming of the consequences of floods, mobilizing all capabilities, means and using all measures to drain the flooded crop areas as quickly as possible.

Accordingly, focus on checking irrigation and drainage systems, dredging drainage gates to drain water in the fields and prepare water for production. Strengthen care after drainage, ensuring normal plant growth. For areas of flooded plants that cannot recover, the products will be collected for animal feed, then the fields will be cleaned and people will be instructed on proper soil treatment techniques.

At the same time, localities are required to prepare seeds, fertilizers and materials to ensure production for the winter crop. Localities are also advised to closely monitor weather developments and have appropriate production plans if heavy rains continue to occur.
