For the first time in history, Vietnam has organized a professional golf tournament with the participation of world golf legends such as Michael Campbell (tournament ambassador), Euan McIntosh, Emanuele Canonica, John Price, James Kingston, Adilson Da Silva, Stephen Dodd, Joakim Haeggman, Peter Baker and Markus Brier....
Golfer Nguyen Anh Minh is eager to compete with world legends
This is a good opportunity for Vietnamese golfers to learn and compete, thereby gaining more confidence and experience in a tournament with professional quality and fierce competition.
That is also the reason why many Vietnamese golfers such as Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Chuc An, Ngo Bao Nghi… along with other young talents such as Nguyen Duc Son, Quang Tri… have registered to compete. All will compete with world golf legends.
Talking about the preparation for Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023, Vietnam Masters champion Nguyen Anh Minh said: "To be honest, I rarely watch legendary golfers compete, but competing with them in the coming days is a dream and will be very interesting. I don't idolize any of the legends coming to Vietnam this time, but I will definitely learn a lot and also hope to do something to surprise my opponents."
It is known that on the first official day of the tournament, Anh Minh was grouped by the Organizing Committee with the legendary Michael Campbell, who defeated the legendary Tiger Woods to win the 2005 US Open golf championship.
The gap in skill level, age, and competition experience is huge, but Anh Minh said he feels comfortable when he is cheered on by fans, especially his father who is always with him in every tournament.
For nearly a year, Anh Minh has been on an extremely rigorous training program to lose weight and increase his physical strength, in preparation for his future professional journey.
Nguyen Anh Minh aims for a professional path
"Recently, I have been working out at the gym and lost 14 kg. My body currently feels light and my spirit is very comfortable. I do not feel pressured when competing in this tournament even though I am meeting world legends. My goal is to enter the final round. In the future, my goal is to become a professional, but this journey is still very long. I think I only meet 10% of the requirements," Nguyen Anh Minh shared.
In 2023, Vietnamese golf marked a strong turning point, reaping many successes in domestic and international arenas. The biggest highlight was the historic achievement of the Vietnamese golf team at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. This is the first time in history that Vietnamese golf has won a SEA Games medal and won 3 medals of all colors.
Anh Minh is a typical face in the bright picture of Vietnamese golf. The 16-year-old golfer won 1 silver medal in the team and 1 bronze medal in the men's individual at the 32nd SEA Games, won the professional tournament Vietnam Masters 2023, and entered the top 30 of the 19th ASIAD. Most recently, Nguyen Anh Minh became the Vietnamese golfer with the best performance at the prestigious Asia Pacific Amateur Championship 2023.
