Axios reported on October 19 that US officials are extremely concerned about a major security breach after two US intelligence documents about Israel's preparations for an attack on Iran were posted by a Telegram account linked to Tehran.

The leak comes at a sensitive time and is believed to be aimed at sabotaging plans by Israel, which has yet to respond after being hit by 200 Iranian missiles on October 1.

CNN quoted sources as saying that US officials are urgently investigating the cause of the leak of top secret documents of the country's intelligence community onto social networks.

The documents, dated October 15 and 16, began appearing online on October 18 after being posted by a Telegram account called Middle East Spectator. According to Axios , this account frequently posts pro-Iran content. The social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) associated with Middle East Spectator has a self-declaration that the channel is set up in Iran.

Meanwhile, the leaked documents were labeled top secret and marked to note that they were only to be shared within the Five Eyes group, the intelligence alliance of the United States, Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

Does Israel have nuclear weapons?

CNN did not directly quote the contents of the documents, but said they described Israel's preparations for a possible attack on Iran. One of the documents, compiled by the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, said the plan involved the transport of Israeli weapons.

Another document compiled by the National Security Agency outlines Israeli Air Force air-to-surface missile exercises, believed to be in preparation for an attack on Iran.

In particular, one of the secret documents suggests something Israel has not yet confirmed: that it possesses nuclear weapons. The document states that the US has seen no signs that Israel plans to use nuclear weapons against Iran.

Most US agencies declined to comment while Israel has not yet responded.

Mick Mulroy, former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East and a retired CIA officer, said that if the Israeli plan was indeed leaked, it would be a serious incident. He said that future cooperation between the US and Israel could be affected by the loss of trust.
