The book "Dien Bien Phu - Historical Moments" is divided into 4 parts according to linear time.
Part I: "The Roads to Dien Bien Phu" provides visual materials about the context, the underlying and direct causes of the formation of the "fire pan" of Dien Bien. Part II: "Dien Bien Phu: The unplanned 'poisonous boil'" summarizes the formation of a "porcupine in the Northwest mountains and forests" from late 1953 to early March 1954. Part III: "Firestorm" is a direct look at the 56 fierce days and nights when the "porcupine" transformed from a "Viet Minh meat grinder" plot into a "hell on earth" of the expeditionary army. Part IV: "Earthquake" reflects the consequences and events that took place after May 7, 1954.
To have information for the 4 parts of the book, the group of authors participating in the compilation, including Associate Professor, Doctor Bui Chi Trung; Doctor Nguyen Dinh Thuan; Journalist Dang Bao Trung; Journalist Bui Xuan An; Designer Nguyen Hoang Khoi... have worked hard for a long time to gather documents and collect valuable, high-quality photos from many different sources.
The book also received advice and assistance from experts in military, diplomacy and many other fields such as: the late Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh; Associate Professor, People's Artist Vu Duong Ninh; Senior Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan; Lieutenant General Vu Chien Thang; Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh; Dr. Le Kien Thanh; Colonel Dao Chi Cong; Writer Binh Ca..., along with many international scholars, journalists and photographers.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Chi Trung, the book's editor, said that moments from history have undeniable power because authenticity and objectivity are the inherent nature of photography. The book does not aim to explain history but to prove that history has taken place.
The highlight of the book is to help readers see the Dien Bien Phu victory in 56 days and nights and also from the world's perspective. The editorial team's wish is that the publication will contribute to helping future generations and international friends have the opportunity to see and intuitively feel an event of great significance in the history of national defense of the Vietnamese people - Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Chi Trung emphasized.

Through nearly 200 unique photos that have been carefully collected, filtered and selected, the book vividly, comprehensively and systematically recreates the Dien Bien Phu Victory, as well as images of the Dien Bien land today, which is undergoing many changes and developments. Each page of the book includes photos of historical value, highly symbolic of the event. In addition, there is documentary information to help readers understand the general context and the specific time when the "historic moment" actually took place.
The book is also translated into English and French to serve foreign information work and international friends.
