Reenacting the Nguyen Dynasty's grand inauguration ceremony

On January 1, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center held a ceremony to announce the National Tourism Year, Hue Festival 2025, and reenact the Nguyen Dynasty's Thiet Dai Trieu Nguyen Dan ceremony.

This is the opening activity for a series of programs under the National Tourism Year 2025 as well as to celebrate the official establishment of Hue City under the central government.

The National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2025 will be organized with continuous activities throughout the year, following a 4-season orientation, focusing on 4 program groups with over 150 national and provincial events, including over 70 main events.

Each festival season associated with the National Tourism Year has its own theme, expressing the diversity and richness of cultural colors, demonstrating the rise of an ancient capital - a centrally-governed city today blending into new opportunities.

It is expected that this ceremony will be regularly re-enacted by the Center on special occasions during the year to serve visitors.

Spring Festival “Ancient Capital Spring”: with a series of royal festivals, traditional festivals, unique Tet cultural space and spring entertainment activities bearing the mark of the ancient Hue Capital. Highlights are: The First Ancient Capital Martial Arts Festival, the Art Program Opening the National Tourism Year and the Event celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hue Liberation…

Summer Festival “Shining Capital”: held from April to June with highlights being the Ao Dai Art Program and Community Ao Dai Week.

Autumn Festival “Hue in Autumn”: held from July to September, with the highlight being the Mid-Autumn Festival program, including activities: Hue International Lantern Festival 2025; Lion - Lion - Dragon Festival, Hue Lion Performance and Mid-Autumn Street Lantern Procession.

Winter Festival “Hue Winter”: held from October to December, including new programs to create a more vibrant and warmer winter atmosphere in Hue, while also creating forms of entertainment for visitors to enjoy during their stay in the ancient capital of Hue. Highlights include the Closing Ceremony of the National Tourism Year – Hue 2025 and the International Music Festival; Countdown Art Program - Welcoming the New Year 2026.

At the ceremony, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center staged the Nguyen Dynasty's Thiet Dai Trieu Nguyen Dan ceremony.

Accordingly, the Nguyen Dan Trieu ceremony is a court ceremony of the Nguyen Dynasty, held on the first day of Tet with the grand court ceremony at Thai Hoa Palace and the regular court ceremony at Can Chanh Palace.

First were the grand court ceremonies in the courtyard and inside the Thai Hoa Palace. The King left the Can Chanh Palace to go to the Great Palace Gate and went up to the Thai Hoa Palace to personally witness the ceremony...

During the ceremony, the mandarins will present a memorial to wish the king a prosperous new year. The king will grant royal decrees to reward the mandarins with money and banquets at the beginning of the new year.

Two cannons placed outside the Thai Hoa Palace will be fired to welcome the new year.

After the Thai Hoa Palace completes major renovations in 2024, it is expected that this ceremony will be regularly reenacted by the Center on special occasions throughout the year to serve visitors.
