Sharing on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025), Dr. G. Weerasinghe reviewed the glorious history of the formation and development of the Communist Party of Vietnam under the leadership of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh, emphasizing that the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam ended the crisis in the path to save the country of the Vietnamese people.
Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam defeated the Japanese empire, the French colonialists and the American empire, and unified the country. In 1945, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was established. In 1975, the country was completely unified and in 1976, it was renamed the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Since then, the Communist Party of Vietnam has led the historic task of building socialism in Vietnam.
The Communist Party of Vietnam has protected the socialist state by making necessary changes in the situation of the collapse of the socialist countries in Eastern Europe led by the Soviet Union. Currently, Vietnam has achieved the highest economic growth rate as well as great achievements in all fields: infrastructure, education, housing, health care, transportation, building beautiful cities, industry and agriculture. The living standards of the people have increased correspondingly with the increasingly high economic growth rate.
According to the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, Vietnam won the national liberation struggle by defeating the world's most powerful empires: Japan, France and the United States.
During this decades-long resistance war, under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, the Communist Party of Vietnam acted brilliantly in building a correct ideology, changing tactics from time to time, uniting broad forces across the country and constantly receiving international support.
That was the most important factor that helped the Communist Party of Vietnam maintain its leadership role in the revolution, and Vietnam's victory in that resistance war brought new inspiration, new courage, and new light to the national liberation movements in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Assessing the role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the current national renovation, Dr. G. Weerasinghe said that the Communist Party of Vietnam has determined the roadmap to socialism with the Strategy for building, developing and defending the Fatherland in the new period, including the Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045.
The socialist model that Vietnam has built has achieved many great successes. The comprehensive life of the Vietnamese people has been constantly improved over the years. The people of socialist Vietnam enjoy constant improvements in education, cultural life, health care and hygiene.
Dr. G. Weerasinghe believes that ensuring political stability and social order in Vietnam under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam will continue to create the most important environment for socio-economic development, enhancing Vietnam's position and role in the regional and international arena. The Vietnamese people as well as the international community are very optimistic about Vietnam's future.
According to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka G. Weerasinghe, Vietnam has emerged as one of the fastest growing countries in the world. Industrialization and economic development are among the top concerns of developing countries and Vietnam deserves credit for its success in gradually achieving structural transformation. Vietnam has maintained a growth rate of around 7% over the past decade, largely driven by manufacturing investment. While the factors for this growth are diverse, the country’s foreign policy has played a key role in mobilizing investment and resources, while opening up access to foreign markets.
Commenting on the significance of the fight against corruption and the policy of streamlining the administrative apparatus for the Party's leadership and the country's development, Dr. G. Weerasinghe stated that General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam affirmed that he would continue to promote the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity according to the motto of non-stop, without rest, without forbidden areas, without exceptions. This is a continuation of the policies applied by previous leaders and is a very correct approach. The doctor emphasized that the Communist Party of Sri Lanka especially appreciates the determination of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese leadership in the fight against corruption.
According to Dr. G. Weerasinghe, political stability, social order, the constantly improving living standards of the Vietnamese people, the constantly improving important infrastructure, and the increasingly happy people... are important aspects for Vietnam to ensure smooth progress on the path of building socialism. In the complex international and regional context, promoting the policy of "Vietnamese Bamboo Diplomacy" - evoking the image of a bamboo tree that is strong but flexible under pressure - will be extremely useful in managing those complexities.
General Secretary G. Weerasinghe also expressed his admiration for the Communist Party of Vietnam, affirming that the Communist Party of Sri Lanka always stands side by side with the heroic Communist Party of Vietnam, and wished the Communist Party of Vietnam success in achieving the goals set by the 13th Party Congress.
