This morning (October 10), the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly held a national ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

This is an important event in the series of activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, under the talented leadership of Uncle Ho, the Central Party Committee and the Government, the capital Hanoi has always had a particularly important role and position, associated with glorious milestones full of honor and pride.

According to the General Secretary and President, from a city with a relatively small scale, area, population, backward infrastructure and economy, and heavily devastated by war after liberation, Hanoi today has become the national political and administrative nerve center, a major center of culture, science, education, economy and international integration.

He emphasized that Hanoi is one of the 17 largest cities in the world with an increasingly civilized, modern, dynamic, creative appearance, imbued with the eternal cultural and historical values ​​of the thousand-year-old land of Dong Do - Thang Long.

"The lives of the people of the capital are constantly improving. In 2023, the average income per capita will reach 6,348 USD, the poverty rate will be only 0.03%, of which 19/30 districts will have no poor households. Hanoi is always the locality with the highest human development index, scale and quality of education and training in the country," said General Secretary and President To Lam.

With its outstanding achievements and great contributions over the past 70 years, the General Secretary and President said that the capital city of Hanoi has been honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and State.

According to him, Hanoi is proud to be the only city in the Asia-Pacific region to be awarded the title "City for Peace" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; the first capital of Southeast Asia to be recognized by UNESCO as a member of the global "Creative Cities Network" in 2019.

Combining national strength with the strength of the times

With the position and strength after 40 years of renovation, with new opportunities and fortunes, General Secretary and President To Lam said we are facing a historic opportunity to bring the country into a new era, an era of national growth. This is also the time to orient our future.

"The requirement of bringing the country into a new era places increasingly high tasks on Hanoi; Hanoi must find a way to become a socialist capital as desired by President Ho Chi Minh; must find a way to be worthy of being the capital in the new era of development of the country," General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized.

According to him, the Party and State hope that the capital Hanoi will continue to make more efforts to become an exemplary model, a source of pride for the people and soldiers nationwide, as President Ho Chi Minh believed.

General Secretary and President To Lam requested Hanoi to concentrate all solutions, strongly mobilize resources, especially resources from the people, combine national strength with the strength of the times to build the capital Hanoi to be truly worthy of being the national political and administrative center, the heart of the whole country.

"Developing the capital Hanoi to be cultural, civilized, and modern, soon becoming a globally connected city, deeply integrated, and highly competitive with the region and the world.

"People have a high standard of living and quality of life; the economy, culture and society develop uniquely and harmoniously, truly becoming a center of convergence and crystallization of the country's culture and human civilization; with a level of development on par with the capitals of developed countries in the region and the world," the General Secretary and President stated.

Besides, he also requested to build the Party Committee and political system of the Capital to be truly exemplary, united, clean, strong, comprehensive, and representative; an action-oriented government, a democratic, modern administration with a proactive and creative spirit.

At the same time, according to the General Secretary and President, Hanoi must strengthen cooperation with foreign capitals, promote the culture of Thang Long - Hanoi, build a good image of Hanoi's culture and people with compatriots nationwide, international friends, and overseas Vietnamese, and continue to enhance the position of the capital and the country in the international arena.

"We are proud to have Thang Long - Hanoi, the capital of a thousand years of culture and heroism - where the noble values ​​of the Vietnamese people converge, crystallize and shine. We are more confident in the cause of building the capital and the country; confident in the strength from the historical roots of the Vietnamese people to lead the country steadily towards socialism.

That is the will and aspiration of the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army, of the Party Committee, the people of the Capital and the people of the whole country; it is the responsibility of today's generation towards our ancestors and future generations," the General Secretary and President emphasized.

Under the leadership of the Party, promoting the spirit of "self-reliance, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, national pride", strongly mobilizing people's strength, closely linking the Party's will with the people's hearts, the General Secretary and President believes that the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi will successfully implement President Ho Chi Minh's instructions, soon build "our capital" into a model "socialist capital" in the world, contributing to bringing the country into a new era, an era of national growth.
