On the morning of September 2, the traditional rowing tournament of Giao Thuy district (Nam Dinh province) was held on Giao Son canal with the participation of 10 male and female rowing teams from 5 communes and towns in the district, attracting the attention, watching and cheering of tens of thousands of people.
From early morning, tens of thousands of people stood and sat crowded on both banks of Giao Son canal (Giao Thuy town, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province) to watch the competing teams.
Each team has 15 members. Traditional rowing has become a "brand" of Giao Thuy district, achieving many high achievements in sports competitions of Nam Dinh province.
In communes with strengths in rowing such as Giao Hai, Giao Long, Bach Long - places associated with the seafaring profession, people often practice together even during work and production, creating collective cohesion and lasting health.
Over the years, the rowing competition has become a big festival for the entire Giao Thuy district with a series of events taking place from mid-August to September 3.
The content of the National Day celebration on September 2nd in Giao Thuy district took place enthusiastically from traditional to modern arts such as brass band competition, folk dance competition, education sector art performance, swimming, volleyball, football, etc., gathering thousands of athletes and amateur artists with the opportunity to show their talents, contributing to creating the festive atmosphere of Independence Day on September 2nd.
After a series of dramatic and fierce competitions, the Giao Long commune women's team (Giao Thuy district) won first prize. For the women's competition, there were 5 teams participating, competing in 2 rounds. In round 1, the 3 teams with the best scores were selected to enter the final round. In the final round, the 3 teams will compete fiercely to select the first, second and third prize winners.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (38 years old, athlete of Giao Long commune's women's team) shared that to prepare for this year's tournament, she and the team members practice 3-5 hours every day to ensure health and create cohesion among members.
"Although we are busy all year round, when the Independence Day holiday approaches, we are ready to put everything aside to practice and compete. In addition to health and endurance, swimming requires a spirit of solidarity to achieve high results," Ms. Thuy shared.
After a dramatic morning of competition, the Giao Long commune men's team won first prize.
Mr. Tran Van Quyet, Chairman of Giao Long Commune People's Committee, said that Giao Long Commune has a tradition of rowing for 30-40 years. In recent years, in competitions of Giao Thuy District and Nam Dinh Province, Giao Long men's and women's rowing teams often achieved high results (first and second prizes).
"Many fishermen work at sea, earning 40-50 million VND/day from fishing boats, but they are willing to take time off work to participate in rowing and cheering for the commune's competition teams. Over the years, Independence Day, September 2, has become a movement for the people in the commune," Mr. Quyet shared.
On the green track, the teams were enthusiastically competing, while on the shore, people stood packed along the entire track, cheering and cheering.
Tens of thousands of people stood packed on both sides of Giao Son canal to cheer on the teams.
Thousands of Giao Long commune fans enthusiastically cheered for the commune's men's and women's football teams.
"It has been a tradition for decades that every September 2nd Independence Day, people in the commune will temporarily put aside all work to watch and cheer on the men's and women's teams of the commune," said Nguyen Hong Tuyen (33 years old, resident of Giao Long commune, Giao Thuy district).
People in Giao Thuy district (Nam Dinh) live in a festive atmosphere as they enthusiastically cheer and watch the rowing teams compete.
Many people sat on the second and third floors of high-rise buildings along Giao Son canal to watch the teams compete.
This morning, Giao Thuy district also organized the 2024 Cultural - Sports Festival with many unique performances and ensemble performances.
