(CLO) Health officials said a victim injured in the collapse of a train station canopy in Serbia earlier this month died on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 15.

The concrete canopy of Novi Sad station collapsed on November 1, killing 14 people, aged between 6 and 74, and injuring three others.

"The patient was seriously injured... Despite the doctors' efforts to save him, the victim died," Vesna Turkulov, director of the Vojvodina Medical Center, told local media.

Doctors are still trying to save the lives of the other two people who are in critical condition, Turkulov added.

The fatal accident in Serbia's second-largest city came just months after years-long renovations at the station were completed.

The tragedy sparked outrage across Serbia and protests in both Novi Sad and the capital Belgrade.

Construction Minister Goran Vesic resigned days later but protests continued, with protesters calling for the Prime Minister and Mayor of Novi Sad to resign over alleged corruption and lax oversight of construction projects.

Protesters blocked traffic for six hours at an intersection near the train station on Sunday. "People died because of corruption, because of irresponsibility, because you refused to take responsibility," Jelena Stupljanin, an actress, said at the protest.

Serbian authorities have promised criminal and political action in the case, including further resignations. Prosecutors have so far questioned more than 70 people, including Minister Vesic, but no arrests have been made.
