In addition, students studying at general education institutions, receiving full-time university training at university education institutions, or full-time college training at vocational education institutions during a training course of a training level are also subject to temporary deferment of military service.
Article 30 of this law stipulates that citizens who are 18 years old or older can be called up for military service. The age for military service ranges from 18 to 25 years old. For citizens who have received college or university degrees and have been temporarily deferred from military service, the age for military service is up to 27 years old.
Proposal for 100% of young people to perform military service
Master Dang Kien Cuong, Head of Student Affairs Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said that based on the provisions of the Military Service Law, only students who are studying at a university or college in a training course can postpone their military service. "As for university graduates, those who continue to study for a master's or doctorate degree or go to work, if they are under 27 years old and are on the local military service list and meet the standards, they will still perform their military service," Master Cuong shared.
Regarding whether students of international joint programs at universities can postpone their military service, Master Cao Quang Tu, Director of Admissions at Saigon International University, said: "These students are still in the regular university program of the universities, so according to regulations, they can still postpone their military service.
According to Master Cao Quang Tu, every year students still ask for confirmation from the school to submit to the local military command to postpone their military service. "At the same time, the local military command where the school is located also comes to the school every year to confirm whether the students who postpone their military service are still studying. If not, the locality will put them on the list of students who are called for military service. I also remind students to update their confirmation to the locality once a year to avoid having their studies interrupted," Master Tu shared.
