According to Dassault CEO Eric Trappier, Serbia will receive nine single-seat Rafales and three two-seaters by 2029. However, the contract value was not disclosed.
These multi-role fighters will help Serbia modernize its air force and replace Soviet-era fighters. The Rafale is a "multi-role" fighter that can be used to hunt enemy aircraft, attack targets on land and at sea, and conduct reconnaissance.
Speaking to the press at the signing ceremony, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said: "We are happy to be part of the Rafale club. We thank the French President for making this decision and allowing us to buy new Rafale aircraft."
President Macron said the deal underscores "the enduring alliance between the two countries in a stronger and more sovereign Europe", launching a potential strategy.
“The opening towards a strategic change despite so much pressure… This is real strategic courage and an opportunity for Europe,” Mr Macron said.
