According to the Ministry of Public Security , implementing the National Assembly's resolution on piloting vehicle license plate auctions , from September 15, 2023 to the end of February 2024, the industry will organize online auctions of 15,185 vehicle license plates, of which 14,062 vehicle license plates won the auction and were submitted by customers, with a total amount of nearly VND 1,400 billion.

The Ministry of Public Security said that the auction of car license plates meets the needs of the people, creates fairness among the interested parties, and at the same time effectively exploits public assets, increasing revenue for the State budget. In particular, the auction of license plates has received much attention, agreement and support from the public.

However, the Ministry of Public Security believes that the current auction is still limited to private cars, and has not been widely applied, so it has not fully met the wishes of people who want to own license plates according to their preferences.

Accordingly, the starting price of a motorbike or scooter license plate put up for auction is not less than 5 million VND; the step price is 10% of the starting price.

The bill will also add the right of the auction winner to register the auctioned license plate at the police agency where they are managed.

With large quantity and cheap starting price, beautiful motorbike license plates are expected to receive much attention from people and collectors.
