According to PhoneArena , Huawei is said to be designing its own CMOS sensor for the camera-focused P70 smartphone series that it will release early next year. The sensor is expected to be manufactured by SMIC - China's largest semiconductor manufacturer that helped produce the 7nm Kirin 9000S chip used in the Mate 60 series.

Huawei currently has no stock of Sony camera sensors and is unable to replenish them as Sony has reportedly ended its business relationship, leaving the Chinese company unhappy as its smartphone cameras have often received excellent reviews, the report said.
So developing its own camera sensors would be a very notable move by the Chinese company. Most manufacturers don’t have to go through the trouble of making their own camera sensors because it’s easier to buy them from companies like Sony and Samsung. Even Apple uses Sony to make most of the camera sensors in its iPhones.
Huawei lost its partnership with photography giant Leica last year, forcing the company to create its own smartphone camera system called XMAGE. That's the hardware, but on the software side, the company has also developed its own HarmonyOS platform, as well as Huawei Mobile Services and the main services that come with it...
At one point, Huawei was TSMC's second-largest customer after Apple, but US sanctions aimed at preventing American foundries from supplying advanced chips have forced the company to partner with SMIC and other unnamed firms in an effort to once again become a challenger to other manufacturers, at least in China.
