After big wins, Man Utd and Liverpool enter FA Cup 5th round

Man Utd won 4-2 at the "small" team Newport County. Liverpool defeated Norwich 5-2 to advance to the 5th round of the FA Cup.

Man Utd beat Newport 4-2

Man Utd played away to Newport, a team playing in League Two (equivalent to the fourth tier of English football). Coach Ten Hag could be satisfied with his team's effective attack, scoring 4 goals. However, the "Red Devils" victory still left some scars as they conceded 2 goals.

The visitors started smoothly when they took the lead in the 6th minute, Ganarcho passed the ball smoothly from the left for Fernandes to finish on the edge of the penalty area, the ball went low into the left corner of the goal.

Just six minutes after opening the scoring, Man Utd doubled the lead. Dalot passed the ball from the right for Mainoo to execute a right-footed curler from the edge of the penalty area, the ball hit the inside of the post and went into the net.

After scoring two early goals, Man Utd still controlled the match. Newport had very little possession (25% of the time), however, this team had quite a few attacks approaching Bayindir's goal.

In the 36th minute, Morris made a stroke from the right side of the center, sending the ball into the left corner, forcing goalkeeper Bayindir to submit. Indeed, the Man Utd defense and goalkeeper were not at fault for this goal when the home team's midfielder had a brilliant finish.

The goal against Man Utd made Newport players excited. Two minutes into the second half, Newport surprised everyone by equalizing 2-2, Evans rushed in to score from less than 5m away.

Man Utd's defense system in this match was poor in the second half, especially the midfield when they could not make long-range interceptions, so the home players had no difficulty creating finishing shots, even equal to Man Utd even though the away team controlled the ball twice as much.

However, Man Utd's finishing accuracy was still better. In the 68th minute, Shaw curled the ball with his right foot, hitting the post and bouncing out. The ball accidentally reached Antony's position and the Brazilian midfielder quickly tapped the ball into the empty net. Newport's goalkeeper flew in the situation where Shaw finished and had not yet stood up when Antony kicked the rebound.

Man Utd's 4-2 victory was sealed in the 4th minute of stoppage time, after Mainoo's unsuccessful shot, the ball was in disarray at the top of the penalty area, Hojlund quickly took the ball and scored, sealing a 4-2 victory for Man Utd.

Liverpool have a streak of 19 consecutive unbeaten matches

Klopp's Liverpool enjoyed a resounding victory in the FA Cup fourth round. The Kop beat Norwich City 5-2 at Anfield to extend their unbeaten run to 19 games (W17 D2).

Playing dominantly from the opening whistle, Liverpool took just 16 minutes to take the lead, Jones opened the scoring. Norwich surprisingly equalized just 6 minutes after falling behind, Gibson scored. However, Liverpool did not take too long to take the lead when Nunez scored in the 28th minute.

The Kop went into the break leading 2-1, with victory in the hands of the home side when Jota made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute, but Liverpool were not done yet. Nine minutes later, a huge victory was clear for Liverpool after Van Dijk's goal made it 4-1.

Norwich continued to find the home team's net, Sainz reduced the score to 2-4 in the 69th minute, but the visitors had no hope of a comeback. The 5-2 victory for the Anfield team was sealed by Gravenberch in the 5th minute of injury time.
