Chi Thanh tunnel landslide, 12 passenger trains transferred, many trains stopped running

Speaking with Giao thong Newspaper reporters, the leader of Vietnam Railways Corporation said that they are organizing the transfer of train passengers by car between La Hai station and Tuy Hoa station due to the landslide incident in Chi Thanh tunnel at Km1168+700 (Phu Yen province), and the time for the road to be cleared is not yet known.

Accordingly, from 5:30 p.m. this afternoon (May 21), nearly 2,700 passengers were transferred on 12 trains. While waiting for the transfer, passengers were provided with free meals and drinks.

For odd-numbered trains, passengers who have not taken the train and have tickets that go beyond Dieu Tri station, if they do not take the train, will have their tickets refunded and will not be charged a fee.

For even-numbered trains, passengers who have not taken the train and have tickets that go beyond Tuy Hoa station, if they do not take the train, their tickets will be refunded and no fee will be charged.

Due to the tunnel landslide, the railway has canceled train SE9 departing from Hanoi station on May 22 and train SE10 departing from Saigon station on May 22, 2024. Passengers who do not take train SE9/SE10 will have their train tickets refunded and will not be charged a fee.

Regarding freight trains, 10 trips have been temporarily suspended: trains HH7 and SH3 departing from Giap Bat station on May 21; trains HH9T and HH15T departing from Yen Vien station on May 22; train HH5 departing from Giap Bat station on May 22; trains HH8, HH6, and SH4 departing from Song Than station on May 21; trains HH10T and HH16T departing from Song Than station on May 22, 2024.

At around 10:15 this morning, a large amount of rock and soil in the Chi Thanh railway tunnel suddenly fell down while a construction train was reinforcing the tunnel. The estimated volume of rock and soil that collapsed was about 30 cubic meters.
