Today, July 30, at the Canadian International School, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, the qualifying round of the Robotacon WRO 2023 Robot Competition in the Central and Southern regions took place, with the participation of about 700 contestants from Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces.

This year's competition is themed Connecting The World. The competition is divided into competition groups with topics of global concern such as coral and marine life conservation, infrastructure repair and installation such as repairing submarine cable systems, repairing offshore solar panels, automation, etc.

Yesterday, July 29, the contestants in the Central and Southern regions tried out the sand table and today, July 30, they officially competed in 3 groups B0, B1, B2. This afternoon, the organizing committee awarded the categories such as consolation prizes, third prizes, second prizes and first prizes in the groups.

Students from 6 to 19 years old compete in the competition

The top 30% of the teams after this afternoon's competition have been announced. The teams will represent the Central and Southern regions to participate in the national finals in Hanoi on August 19 and 20, 2023.

At the same time, today also announced the 7 best teams of group B0 (ages 6 and up) participating in the international robot innovation competition in Singapore.

Robotacon WRO now has more than 90 member countries, attracting about 22,000 teams to compete at the national level each year and 600 teams (equivalent to 2,000 contestants) to participate in the world finals held in rotation in member countries. This year, the best teams of Robotacon WRO Vietnam will be selected to compete in Panama in November.

Encourage students to be creative

Speaking at the award ceremony this afternoon, July 30, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed that STEM education is increasingly being implemented by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City in schools. Especially when implementing the 2018 General Education Program, STEM education is increasingly developed and included in diverse activities, from teaching subjects, building creative scientific research, STEM education through experiential activities, clubs, etc.

In Ho Chi Minh City, since 2013, STEM education has been implemented in STEM robot clubs in the form of socialization, and has been increasingly supported by many schools and parents. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training highly appreciates playgrounds such as Robotacon WRO, which helps students practice important skills and access advanced education in the world. Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc hopes that from this competition in the Central and Southern regions, excellent students will continue to develop in national and international competitions, continue to apply the skills learned in the learning process, and develop their future...

About 700 students from Ho Chi Minh City and the Central and Southern provinces compete in robot creation.

Ms. Su Kim Ngan, Director of Educational Solutions at LEGO Education, said that the Robotacon WRO 2023 robotics competition is for students aged 6-19 to participate in programming, assembling, and creating robots to solve problems in life. It can be said that the timeliness of the competition is very high. The competition hopes to inspire students, helping them to convey what they have learned in mathematics, science, technology... into building robots.

Meanwhile, Mr. Peter James Corcoran, Principal of the Canadian International School System, said he was very proud that the Robotacon WRO 2023 robot creation competition in the Central and Southern regions was held at the school's gymnasium. He said the competition contributed to training young people in necessary 21st century skills such as creative thinking, critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving and mastery of technology. All of these skills will accompany them in all their work, helping them succeed in a future with many changes.

The 7 best teams of group B0 participate in international robot creation in Singapore

Robotacon WRO 2023 in Vietnam is organized by the Embassy of Denmark in collaboration with LEGO Education with the support of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong, and the Hai Phong Youth Union.

This is the 9th year that the Robotacon WRO competition has taken place in Vietnam. This year, Robotacon WRO 2023 has more than 1,200 contestants nationwide from 330 schools - more than any other year. Notably, parents are increasingly understanding the value of the competition, while the contestants' expertise is increasingly enhanced.

The teams that won first place in the qualifying round of the Central and Southern regions are in the following groups: group B0: team Quyet Tam 01; group B1: Hong Bang 5 and group B2: team Hong Bang 4.
