The noisy story related to the film Southern Forest Land is not limited to just one film. It is a viewpoint on how to make historical films, create art and develop the art market for the country.
From the noise related to the film Southern Forest Land, National Assembly member Bui Hoai Son expressed his opinion that respecting history must be considered a principle and that creativity, no matter how creative, needs to have a framework. (Source: National Assembly) |
In my opinion, we need to respect history. What belongs to history that has been recognized and remembered must be the details that must be respected in artistic products. However, there are many details that are not mentioned in history that can become great topics and materials for the rich imagination and unlimited creativity of artists.
That said, we need to understand that works of art are not entirely historical. But works of art about history help the past become more vivid and closer, conveying valuable messages from our ancestors.
Our country’s history is very heroic and proud - it is a great material for literary and artistic products. Exploiting that material helps to tell the history, beautiful images, and inspiring stories of Vietnam to domestic and international audiences. In particular, it affirms the position and stature of the nation, forming soft power for the country.
In fact, over the years, with the widespread popularity and penetration of foreign art products such as films, comics, and songs that are not suitable for Vietnamese culture, traditions, and moral values, a part of the public is fascinated with foreign history, forming strange perceptions, thoughts, and lifestyles, especially at risk of forgetting national history and culture. This is a matter of concern.
Respecting history must be considered a principle. No matter how creative, there must be a framework. But how to harmonize these two factors at a level that is acceptable to the majority of the public depends a lot on the general awareness of society. Therefore, I hope that our country's artists will have more Vietnamese literary and artistic products. From there, it will help everyone, especially the young, to have confidence and pride in the history and culture of the nation, and to integrate firmly with the world.
It can be said that using historical materials to create literature and art encounters many difficulties and barriers. That is how to both respect history and create art. How to make history more attractive, closer, and attract more current audiences. Therefore, to create a creative and individual work of art is extremely difficult and challenging for artists. Especially, with the development of social networks, public praise, criticism, and evaluation are extremely important today, and are also a test for artists.

Encouraging and motivating artists to produce more high-quality works that meet the needs of the audience and the development of the country is extremely important. Of course, each culture is different, the way of making films must be different. I still think that if science opens up knowledge about nature to society, then artists open up about goodness and beauty.
Of the three goals of education "truth, goodness, beauty", culture and art account for two. True writers and artists are always the pioneers who open up to people the meaning of life, for which they must sacrifice themselves. Moreover, a civilized society is a society that knows how to listen and create a free corridor for culture and art.
"Respect for history must be considered a principle. No matter how creative, there must be a framework. But how to harmonize those two factors at a level that the majority of the public accepts depends largely on the general perception of society." |
In my opinion, historical artistic creations need to be viewed in a more “open” way, listened to in a more positive way, and supported more. Only then will artists dare to sacrifice themselves for art. At the same time, they should boldly exploit historical materials to create literary and artistic products worthy of the times.
Resolution 23-NQ/TW of the Politburo on continuing to build and develop literature and art in the new period emphasized: "Literature and art are very important and especially delicate fields of culture". When we have works of art, the spirit and important messages from the past will help us gain more pride and strengthen national strength from the cultural history of the country.
I hope that the audience will support Vietnamese cinema and art works in general, especially literary and artistic works exploiting historical materials. It is the interest and support of the audience that will help artists have more spiritual motivation, helping the country's literature and art to have more strength. At the same time, it will help us build an advanced Vietnamese culture, imbued with national identity as the Party's Resolution has proposed.
