Among the nearly 100 applications participating in the 2024 Science Initiative Competition, there are many solutions and products in the industrial sector, taking advantage of local raw materials.
After 2 months of launching, the Creative Science Contest (CSC) organized by VnExpress received applications from research groups, scientists, and students from universities and colleges. This year, the contest accepted products from 5 groups of fields: biomedicine - biochemistry, technology, agriculture, semiconductor microchip materials, and environment. In the agricultural field alone, many authors have highly applicable projects such as agricultural ionized water or instructions for quickly making pesticides from herbs. Some solutions related to technology application include the process of growing hydroponic melons in greenhouses, and the application of digital transformation in agriculture in Ben Tre.
Dr. Tran Phi Vu, Chairman of the Vietnam Innovation Network in Australia, Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, said that after the Covid-19 pandemic, agriculture plays an even more important role in ensuring national food security. One of the eight sectors that the Government wants to promote and develop in the coming time, smart and highly efficient agriculture is a priority.
According to Dr. Vu, the world trend is not only to switch from smart agriculture to high-efficiency agriculture, that is, instead of only paying attention to technology, we also pay attention to production efficiency. For example, in Japan, the agricultural area is low but the planting efficiency is extremely high. To do this, it is necessary to have an automatic production process, timely monitoring technology to make appropriate adjustments. "Most 4.0 technologies such as AI, Bigdata, blockchain, IoT... are suitable to achieve optimal efficiency improvement," he said.
He cited the application of IoT technology to monitor the grape growing system for much higher efficiency than not using it. Or when using drone technology in spraying pesticides, the distribution speed is 40 times faster than the traditional method. Technology is present in the smart agricultural chain from the stage of selecting seeds using AI to select good genetic varieties of disease-resistant crops, to the stage of logistics with the application of blockchain and IoT technology in certifying the origin of products using QR codes to create consumer trust. The stage of classifying products also applies high technology to easily classify by size and shape.

Dr. Vu assessed that Vietnam is lacking high-quality agricultural human resources, the image value of agricultural products is still low, mainly because very few young people return from abroad to pursue agriculture. Accordingly, it is necessary to invest in the young generation, issue policies to encourage creativity and attract high-quality young human resources to return to develop agriculture instead of just traditional farmers.
The Science Innovation Competition is entering its third year, with the goal of creating a playground for science and technology lovers with ideas and products that have value in life. The organizing committee accepts applications until March 31.
The preliminary round takes place from 00:00 on April 1 to 23:59 on April 21. The final round: From 00:00 on April 22 to 23:59 on May 9. The award ceremony of the Contest will take place on May 16, broadcast live on the Fanpage VnExpress.net.
The total prize is up to 300 million VND, including the special prize of 100 million VND, the first prize of 70 million VND, the second prize of 50 million VND, the third prize of 30 million VND and two consolation prizes of 10 million VND each. In addition, CSC has an initiative category for remote areas with a value of 30 million VND.
