Branded OCOP products, farmers in a district in Bac Giang sold thousands of tons of guava very quickly.

Tan Yen Guava products are recognized as 4-star OCOP, the business of Quyen Phong Agricultural Cooperative, Cao Thuong town, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province is improved and achieves clear economic efficiency.

The OCOP product "Tan Yen Guava" is one of the typical products of farmers in Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province. Ms. Do Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of Quyen Phong Agricultural Cooperative, Cao Thuong town, Tan Yen district shared: Quyen Phong Cooperative was established in 2017. Since its inception, we have developed 2 OCOP certified products, which are Tan Yen Guava product with 4-star OCOP certification in 2022 and Tan Yen Guava Tea product with 3-star OCOP certification in 2023.

Ms. Quyen said: At first, the members of the cooperative had a hard time selling guava through traditional trading, traders forced down prices, leading to low profits. However, when we had OCOP-certified products, the cooperative's business was improved and achieved clear economic efficiency. The products have a clear origin, creating trust for consumers, the spread of the products is very fast, many people know about them, and from there, consumption is good.

Quyen Phong Agricultural Cooperative, Cao Thuong town, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province is proud to introduce Tan Yen Guava product with 4-star OCOP certification.

“Currently, we have regular customer bases such as clean fruit stores, OCOP product introduction and sales points in Hanoi, Bac Giang, Da Nang, Lang Son, Kon Tum, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, etc., placing orders to bring into the stable distribution system. Regarding the online sales market, we also have a very stable retail customer base,” said Ms. Quyen.

In 2024, the People's Committee of Bac Giang province issued a Decision approving the plan to request support for the linkage "Building a production and business model of Tan Yen guava products and Tan Yen guava tea buds according to the value chain in Cao Thuong town, Tan Yen district" of Quyen Phong Agricultural Cooperative (Tan Yen).

Accordingly, 99 households in Hoa Son residential group, Cao Thuong town participated in the model of linking production and trading of Tan Yen guava and Tan Yen guava tea according to the value chain; the implementation period is 5 years (2024-2028) with a linkage scale of 80 hectares. All households participating in guava cultivation apply VietGAP production process; organize production and harvest associated with the consumption of agricultural products.

“On average, each year, Quyen Phong Agricultural Cooperative harvests about 1,000 tons of guava, with an average selling price of 15,000 - 25,000 VND/kg. Supporting the linkage of “Building a production and business model of Tan Yen guava products, Tan Yen guava tea buds according to the value chain in Cao Thuong town, Tan Yen district” aims to contribute to the effective implementation of the Project “Farmers' Associations at all levels are the core in organizing agricultural production in the direction of cooperation, linking value chains, building and improving the quality of OCOP products, period 2022-2025”, promoting the development of agricultural and rural economy associated with the construction of new rural areas effectively” - Ms. Quyen said.

Similarly, Danh mountain ginseng products are also the pride of Tan Yen district farmers. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung - Director of Danh Lien Chung Mountain Ginseng Production and Consumption Cooperative said that ginseng begins to flower after nearly 1 year of planting. The ginseng flowering season lasts from late August to mid-October. Plants that are 4 years old or older will yield a yield equivalent to 40 kg of dry weight/sao. Just counting the money from selling ginseng flowers, growers earn hundreds of millions of VND/ha/year (depending on product quality).

Danh Mountain Ginseng Flower has now become a specialty processed into Danh Mountain Ginseng Flower Bud Tea - a valuable cooling and refreshing drink. Since 2022, the Cooperative has received support from the Bac Giang Provincial Farmers' Association in consulting and completing product profiles to participate in the evaluation and classification of OCOP products and has been recognized as a 4-star OCOP product of Bac Giang in 2022.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, since the cooperative achieved 4-star OCOP product, the consumption of the product "Nam Nui Danh ginseng flower tea" has increased, and the price of the product has also increased. Especially through the exhibition, promotion, and trade connection events organized by the Farmers' Association at all levels, the product "Nam Nui Danh ginseng flower tea" of the cooperative has been known and welcomed by more and more customers.

Tan Yen District Farmers' Association has actively participated in the OCOP program.

Implementing the OCOP Program, Tan Yen district is assessed to have many advantages because this is a large agricultural production area of ​​the province. The district has diverse vegetables, fruit trees, and traditional craft villages.

Aiming at the goal of developing branded OCOP products, following the value chain based on the advantages of raw materials, culture and indigenous knowledge, up to now, the whole district has developed 45 OCOP products (including 7 4-star products). Typical examples include: Early lychee, star apple, bamboo shoots, grilled spring rolls, Tan Yen guava, Danh mountain ginseng, honey, cucumber, melon, guava, rice noodles, soy sauce, lam tea...

Promoting the core role of farmers, the Tan Yen District Farmers’ Association at all levels has actively participated in the OCOP program. One of the key tasks set by the Tan Yen District Farmers’ Association in the period of 2023 – 2028 is to maintain and improve the quality of 10 OCOP products.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen - Vice President of Tan Yen District Farmers' Association said: Implementing the Project "Farmers' Associations at all levels are the core in organizing agricultural production in the direction of cooperation, linking value chains, building and improving the quality of OCOP products in the period of 2022-2025", Tan Yen District Farmers' Association has developed a plan to advise the District Party Committee to issue a document directing and advising, adding Association leaders to participate in the council for evaluating and classifying OCOP products at the district level.

At the same time, the District Farmers' Association organized a conference to deploy and thoroughly implement the Farmers' Associations of communes and towns to regularly carry out propaganda, consultation, guidance, and assistance to entities to build new and consolidate and improve the quality of recognized OCOP products, in which the Association directly guides the construction.

In the period of 2023 - 2028, Tan Yen District Farmers' Association sets the key goal of building 5 OCOP products, maintaining and improving the quality of 10 OCOP products.

At the same time, strongly innovate and improve the quality of activities of Farmers' Associations at all levels, enhance the role and responsibility of cadres and farmer members in agricultural development and advanced new rural construction.
