Breakthrough in transport infrastructure, attracting investment for Lam Dong

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan emphasized that the planning for the development of Lien Khuong International Airport in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, into an international airport is the concretization of the implementation of the Party's Resolution on the breakthrough in transport infrastructure; of the Politburo in Resolution No. 23; the planning for the development of the airport system in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, has been approved by the Prime Minister.

"The announcement of the planning and upgrading of Lien Khuong Airport into an international airport demonstrates the strategic, long-term vision for developing aviation infrastructure and the efforts of the Ministry of Transport in developing the country's infrastructure.

The province also selects projects, closely following the policy on decentralization to localities; proactively working with relevant agencies, ministries and branches to mobilize and effectively use all legal resources to invest in necessary equipment to transform Lien Khuong Airport from a domestic airport to an international airport, ensuring synchronization and efficiency according to the approved plan.

In addition, Lam Dong strengthens connections and cooperation with neighboring provinces and regions to build diverse tourism products, becoming an attractive destination for international visitors. Lien Khuong becoming an international airport is a premise to open domestic and international routes to create momentum for tourism economic development, promoting the import and export of high-value agricultural products.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, assessed that upgrading Lien Khuong airport to become the first international airport in the Central Highlands region will have regular international flights to and from, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic and tourism development of Lam Dong province in particular and the Central Highlands provinces in general.

"This is the fastest and most feasible transport infrastructure project to implement Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated October 6, 2022 of the Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Central Highlands region to 2030, with a vision to 2045, to implement regional connectivity.

This also contributes to attracting investors and tourists, in order to exploit the potential advantages of the Central Highlands region in the process of international integration," Mr. Phuc emphasized.

New look of Lien Khuong International Airport

Previously, the leader of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee said that according to Decision No. 648/QD-TTg dated June 7, 2023 of the Prime Minister, Lien Khuong airport is planned to have an area of ​​nearly 341 hectares by 2030, with an investment cost of about 4,591 billion VND. By 2050, this airport is expected to have an area of ​​nearly 487 hectares, welcoming 5 million tourists.

In Decision 758 approving the planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Ministry of Transport, Lien Khuong is an international port and airport for shared civil and military use.

Accordingly, in the period 2021 - 2030, the airport will be level 4E (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO) and level II military airport. Capacity of 5 million passengers/year and 20,000 tons of cargo/year. The type of aircraft operated is code C such as A320/A321, code E such as B747/B787/A350 and equivalent.

By 2050, the airport will be level 4E and military airport level II. Capacity of 7 million passengers/year and 30,000 tons of cargo/year. The type of aircraft used is code C such as A320/A321, code E such as: B747/B787/A350 and equivalent.

According to Decision 610 of the Ministry of Transport approving the planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Lien Khuong is an international port and airport for shared civil and military use.

Lien Khuong International Airport has invested in and expanded a series of works, items, taxiway systems, parking lots...

According to the planning of the identified airport construction items, the runway system (period 2021-2030) will maintain the existing runway configuration with dimensions of 3,250m x 45m, with a 7.5m wide material shoulder. By 2050, the existing runway will be extended to the west by 350m to 3,600m x 45m, with material shoulder size according to regulations.

Taxiway system in the period 2021-2030, parallel to the entire length of the existing runway (planning three connecting taxiways, one quick exit taxiway). By 2050, the parallel taxiway will be extended in accordance with the extended runway, adding one connecting taxiway, one quick exit taxiway.

From 2021 to 2030, the aircraft parking lot will be expanded to accommodate 21 parking positions and have reserves for expansion when needed. By 2050, the aircraft parking lot will continue to be expanded to accommodate 27 parking positions and have reserves for expansion when needed.

Lien Khuong Airport, Da Lat was built by the French in 1933. From 1956 to 1960, the Americans renovated and upgraded Lien Khuong airport with a fairly complete infrastructure.

In 2003, the project "Renovation, expansion, upgrading of runway (HCC), taxiway, aircraft parking - Lien Khuong airport" was started. The scale ensures the exploitation of medium-range civil aircraft such as A320, A321 and equivalent, the airport meets level 4C standards and is a level 2 military airport.

In 2019, the upgrade and repair was completed, and it can accommodate medium-range civil aircraft such as Boeing 767 or Airbus A320, A321... Currently, Lien Khuong Airport can receive flights with the capacity to serve 1.5 - 2 million passengers/year.
