According to Android Police , the large and bulky design of gaming phones makes them difficult to carry around, so the new design improvements of the ROG Phone 8 will help solve this problem. It is an improved design, much more beautiful than previous ROG phone models. In addition, the Taiwanese company has equipped its latest gaming phone with the best cameras, including a telephoto sensor.
ROG Phone 8 brings a compact design, solving the annoying problem with gaming phones
Asus claims the ROG Phone 8 series is 15% thinner than its predecessor without sacrificing performance or any of the series' key features. It's also the world's first IP68-certified gaming phone, making it dust and water resistant. However, this leaves it without the cooling vents seen on the ROG Phone 7. The textures are placed behind the glass back, so users won't be able to feel them when touching them.
The back of the ROG Phone 8 features the Aura RGB Lighting logo, while the ROG Phone 8 Pro and 8 Pro Edition feature a customizable Mini-LED display. Users can pre-set custom displays or animations. Additionally, users can unlock some hidden animations by tapping the back of the phone with another ROG Phone 8.
The ROG Phone 8 is Asus's most beautiful gaming phone yet, with a 15% slimmer design. The company has also improved the phone's cameras, with the ROG Phone 8 boasting an impressive triple-camera setup.
In terms of hardware, the device is equipped with a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED panel with a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits. Users can increase the refresh rate to 165Hz and the touch sampling rate to 720Hz for a smoother gaming experience. Other equally impressive specifications include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, 1TB UFS 4.0 SSD, and a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
The phone offers all the latest connectivity standards like a 3.5mm jack, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and a side-mounted USB-C port. The only disappointment is the lack of eSIM support – a feature that has become common on the best Android phones.
The phone is equipped with a powerful configuration that can handle all modern game genres.
Asus has also focused on the ROG Phone's cameras this year, with a 50MP main camera with 6-axis gimbal stabilization, a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 32MP 3x telephoto camera. The company also promises 10x optical zoom with AI support, as well as 30x digital zoom. On the front, there's a 32MP camera for selfies.
Like almost every Android phone coming in 2024, the ROG Phone 8 comes with a number of AI-powered features like AI Grabber, X Sense 2.0, AI wallpapers, and more. The phone runs Android 14 out of the box and is promised 2 OS updates and 4 years of security patches.
Finally, the standard ROG Phone 8 comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. If you want more storage and RAM, you'll need to opt for the ROG Phone 8 Pro, which comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Asus also offers the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition, which comes with 24GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and the AeroActive Cooler X fan. The accessory has been redesigned to be 29% smaller while delivering 1.2x better thermal performance.
