Rap Viet season 3 has aired up to episode 2 but has been continuously embroiled in public controversy. In the latest episode, contestant Alen (formerly known as Megashock) was eliminated because he only received 48% of the audience's votes, causing public outrage.
Alen in the competition at Rap Viet season 3
In the competition, Alen performed the rap "Upstream of Tears", inspired by the soundtrack of the movie "Suddenly Want to Cry". However, he was eliminated to the regret of the coaches, judges and audience.
Before coming to Rap Viet, Alen was already famous in the underground community thanks to his excellent fast-flow skills. The male rapper was even nicknamed "speed demon" for his high-speed rapping and flexibility, comparable to famous rapper Datmaniac.
Therefore, many viewers believe that the scoring criteria of at least 50% of the contestants' results depending on the audience's votes in the studio is unreasonable.
On the show's media channel, some viewers even affirmed that Alen is one of the best rappers from the beginning of the show until now, his talent is undeniable.
Therefore, the fact that he was eliminated with only 48% of the audience votes made viewers feel confused. Some people questioned whether the show was arranging it to attract media attention.
Contestant Cadmium, despite showing immature skills, received the highest votes in the program.
Alen's case reminded the audience of contestant Cadmium's performance in Rap Viet season 3 episode 1, with the performance "Vietnam Pride" which was remade from the original "Vietnam Pride".
The 17-year-old girl, despite her confident demeanor, catchy flow, and lyrics that resonate with people because they appeal to the love of her homeland, has many limitations in her voice and delivery (pitch, emphasis, emotion). However, she still received 100% of the audience's votes and all 4 choices from the coaches.
Dubbie's performance caused controversy
Previously, the organizers of Rap Viet season 3 also quietly removed sensitive words from contestant Dubbie's performance in episode 2 and did not give an explanation.
Specifically, Dubbie's rap "Freeze" has the line: "You guys are getting more crazy, you have to be good to get more stuff." In fact, the word "stuff" is used by young people as slang to refer to stimulants.
However, Dubbie's performance was broadcast in full on television, while the organizers cut out the above content when broadcasting on the official YouTube channel.
Previously, when Rap Viet season 3 had not yet aired, the organizers had updated the rules and noted to the contestants participating in the casting round that the lyrics must be civilized (no vulgarity, you - me, 18+...) but with Dubbie's performance, the audience was skeptical about the professionalism and censorship of the producer.
Not to mention, Dubbie received 96% of the audience's votes. He also received enthusiastic cheers from the audience during his performance despite the controversy.
Judge Karik even said that Dubbie's score was added because of his handsome appearance. Tran Thanh added: "If 96%, then at least 1% of the votes were based on appearance."
Andree also commented on the contestant: "The performance still has many mistakes but you are handsome. Now, just being handsome is 60% of the success. I see many rappers who rap boringly but are still famous because they are handsome."
Giao Thong Newspaper has contacted the Organizing Committee of Rap Viet season 3 but has not received any response about the incident.
