In an article published on Indosport on October 15, the Indonesian newspaper said that the home team is planning to naturalize 5 stars to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2024 Asian Cup.
Indonesia plans to naturalize goalkeeper Emil Audero.
The list of 5 players includes: Midfielder Jay Idzes, goalkeeper Emil Audero, centre-back Nathan Tjoe-A-On, midfielder Thom Haye and centre-back Ryan Flamingo.
The most prominent on this list is goalkeeper Emil Audero, who is playing for the current European Cup runner-up Inter Milan.
Another player who is also playing in Italy is Jay Idzes. He is currently playing for Serie B club Venezia.
Recently, Jay Idzes came to Indonesia to complete the naturalization procedures and was personally welcomed by the President of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI), Erick Thohir.
Meanwhile, Nathan Tjoe-A-On is playing for Swansea City Club in the Championship (England).
The 22-year-old player also had a private conversation with the PSSI President about the issue of naturalization. A few days ago, he went to Bung Karno Stadium to watch the match between Indonesia and Brunei.
The remaining two names are Thom Haye and Ryan Flamingo, who currently play in the Netherlands. Both players are said to be ready to become Indonesian citizens this year.
If the above players are all naturalized, the Indonesian team promises to have a significant increase in strength.
The Indonesian team has almost secured a ticket to the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup after they beat Brunei 6-0 in the first leg.
If present in this qualifying round, coach Shin Tae-yong and his team will compete with Vietnam, Philippines and Iraq.
Meanwhile, at the 2024 Asian Cup, Indonesia will continue to face the red team in the group stage, along with Japan and Iraq.
