The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport to consider approving the planning of Pleiku - Gia Lai Airport for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
This is an airport with a location and function in the domestic civil aviation network, used as a shared civil and military airport.
According to the proposal, in the 2021-2030 period, Pleiku Airport will be a 4C airport according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and a level II military airport; with a capacity of 4 million passengers/year and 4,500 tons of cargo/year.
Pleiku Airport has 14 aircraft parking positions, operating aircraft types are A320/A321 and equivalent or lower.
By 2050, Pleiku Airport will maintain its 4C airport level and level II military airport level, with a capacity of 5 million passengers/year and 12,000 tons of cargo/year with a total of 18 aircraft parking positions.
In the period 2021-2030, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam proposed planning the runway 09-27, with dimensions of 3,000m x 45m (extending the beginning of the existing runway 27 by 600m). The vision to 2050 remains the same as the construction scale in the previous phase.
Regarding the passenger terminal in the 2021-2030 period, Pleiku Airport is planning a new passenger terminal with a capacity of 4 million passengers/year. By 2050, the new passenger terminal will be expanded to a capacity of 5 million passengers/year (reserve land for development when needed).
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that the Pleiku Airport Planning dossier for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, was researched by the consulting unit based on statistics and analysis of existing exploitation data of airports in Vietnam, economic growth data, tourism, trade and services and industries that affect the development of passengers at Pleiku Passenger Port, development planning orientation of industries, provinces, regions and the whole country to study forecast data, as a basis for planning the scale of functional areas for the airport.
The selected options have been carefully researched by consultants, ensuring optimality in the planning of functional areas, saving construction costs and feasibility in the construction investment plan.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also proposed that the Ministry of Transport consider and work with the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee to update the Pleiku Airport planning into the dossier adjusting the general planning of Pleiku City until 2045, which is being implemented by the locality.
