Biden and Trump debate on television on September 29, 2020
CNN said the Biden-Trump campaigns have agreed to the rules for the debate in late June.
Specifically, the televised debate lasted 90 minutes with 2 moderators, and no audience.
"The two candidates agreed to debate on identical podiums, and the location of the podium will be determined by a coin toss," according to CNN, adding that both candidates' microphones will be muted throughout the debate, and only the candidate whose turn it is to speak will have their microphone turned on.
Candidates are not allowed to bring props or notes. Each candidate will be given a pen, a pad of paper, and a bottle of water.
The debate will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, with two commercial breaks, during which candidates are prohibited from speaking with their campaign staff.
CNN assured that the two hosts, anchor Jake Tapper and colleague Dana Bash, will take every possible measure to ensure the time and civility of the debate.
The 2020 televised debates were filled with all sorts of gaffes. At one point, Biden snapped, “Will you shut up or not?” as Trump repeatedly interrupted the Democratic candidate.
In May, President Biden and former President Trump agreed to participate in two televised debates, with the second one being carried by ABC on September 10.
